Dear Readers,
|
Thanks to a service grant from the Taproot Foundation, Kidpower has gone through a visual image branding process leading to a new look for our organization.
The "seedburst" person logo inside an "organic O" designed especially for our organization represents the growth, energy, and joy of our work. Our new logo puts a strong focus on the word "power" because empowerment is the result of our program and method of teaching. We are in the process of converting our website to reflect our new look and expect that we will need a few weeks to implement the changes fully. As we go through this conversion, please let us know if you have any difficulty in accessing any part of the website by emailing us at safety@kidpower.org. We are continuing to add new resources to the website. Readers are now able to see back issues of our e-newsletters by going to the archive on our website. The topic of this month's new People Safety Podcast is Safety Tools for Safety Problems. I hope you will enjoy our Halloween Safety article, and I invite you to send the PDF of this article to your schools, family, and friends.
Finally, if any of you have a business you'd like to promote, we need to raise $2,000 for printing our Annual Report, which will be distributed to 1,000 supporters and be on our website. Please email us for details. With appreciation to each of you for your commitment to "People Safety" for yourself and your loved ones,

Irene van der Zande Kidpower Executive Director/Co-Founder

Impact Teen Drivers
|
Impact Teen Drivers is an organization dedicated to raising awareness in teens about the dangers of being distracted while driving. According to this very informative website, car accidents are the leading cause of death among people aged 16 to 19. In the United States, of the 5,500 teens killed in accidents last year, 75% had nothing to do with drugs or alcohol. Text messaging, eating, applying makeup, and adjusting music are among the main killers. This website has great information for teens in a manner that is compelling and straightforward, as well as resources for adults. The vivid posters show that dramatic dangers like Piranhas, Ebola, Shotguns, and Poison are not as likely to be lethal in daily life as Lattes. The catchy tips and probability wheel create a highly interactive way of communicating about this issue. Remembering to stay focused while driving is essential for ANY driver, regardless of age. Recently near Los Angeles, an engineer of a freight train ran a red signal and crashed into a passenger train, just 22 seconds after sending a text message. This tragic accident killed 25 people and injured over 100 more. |
