Dear Readers,
KIDPOWER's e-newsletter was the brainchild of one of the remarkable people who make KIDPOWER what it is, Erika Leonard. She started with a list of 30 names ten years ago, and we now have over 8,500 e-newsletter subscribers from around the world!

At the time she joined our organization in 1995, Erika was a middle school teacher who inspired her students and had parents fighting to get their children into her class.  Through her many roles in KIDPOWER, Erika has contributed greatly to the increasing strength of our organization, especially through her help with building relationships for service, visibility, and funding. She is now our Program Manager of California Services and a member of our international Senior Program Leader Council.

As a dedicated educator, Erika keeps bringing fresh perspectives, new practices, teaching stories, and examples that improve the value and clarity of our services. Her ideas have added to the depth of our program. In everything she does with KIDPOWER, Erika gives fully of her enthusiasm, energy, creativity, and commitment.

Erika producing a podcastOne of Erika's gifts to KIDPOWER is her coining of the term "People Safety" to describe what we teach in a succinct, positive way. Teaching "People Safety skills brings us closer to our goal of ensuring that all people have effective tools for being safe with each other and with themselves. Erika has now come up with another wonderful idea - the creation of free KIDPOWER People Safety Podcast episodes designed to get you thinking and talking about how People Safety skills help people of all ages and abilities build safer, happier lives and stronger relationships.  Each 3-7 minute episode is created for adults to enjoy on their own or with young people. We have started with three episodes and will be adding two each month.

I am also pleased to announce the release of another new resource, our updated KIDPOWER Guide for Parents and Teachers, which is now available for sale on our website as an eBook in English or Spanish ($10). In addition to our library of free articles and our printed publications available for purchase now, we will be adding more eBooks on different topics during the next few months.

With appreciation to each of you for your commitment to "People Safety" for yourself and your loved ones,

Powerful Positive Adult Leadership
Powerful and Positive Adult LeadershipEmotional and physical safety for children begins with their adults taking charge of their well-being. When their adults lead in powerful and respectful ways, young people are safer and they gain a tremendous example of how to be both powerful and respectful in their own lives.
