Rosemary Schindler with Dona Gracia at Pesach Seder in Oakland, CA SHI ended Passover on a wonderful note of celebration with our Israel friends in the San Francisco Bay area in Oakland. Rosemary Schindler, of Shindler's Ark invited SHI to sing "The Dry Bones Live" for a nice Passover event of over 250 people wanting to learn more about the Hebrew Feasts of the Lord. Now we count the days of the Omer in response to Shavuot in June.
SHI helped to host a Seder for about 80 people including many Anusim of our South Bay CA community.
We pray for the Torah to continue to bring light to the "exiles of Jerusalem who are in Sefarad" now awakening all over the Americas. We have noticed an increase in inquiries about Anusim roots via emails from all over the globe and encourage you to write to us. We will be announcing a new Anusim school soon and more information regarding Aliyah issues in our next Newsletter, HaShem willing, in June. |

Approaching Shavuot
We recognize the great G-d of the universe who gave the Torah to Moshe at Mt Sinai. Shavuot is attached to the last day of Passover by the ritual called, "The Counting of the Omer", fifty days to Shavuot, Pentecost.
From the day after the Sabbath, the day that you bring the sheaf of wave offering, you shall keep count until seven full weeks have elapsed; you shall count 50 days until the day after the seventh week, then you shall bring an offering of new grain to Adonai. You shall bring from your settlements two full loaves of bread as a wave-offering. On that same day you shall hold a celebration, it shall be a sacred occasion for you. Lev 23:15-21
We will read the story of Naomi, and Ruth the Moabitis, who stood side by side and eventually became the line of King David through Boaz. Their very different backgrounds were brought together because of the G-d of Abraham Isaac and Jacob. Therefore, the book of Ruth is read on Shavuot in the synagogue reading cycle. This section is called the "Ketuvim", a sector used that is not normally read. This "harvest setting" serves as the perfect backdrop for the "Barley harvest" and then the "Wheat offering". Families would come to the threshing floor on their scheduled time (not everyone had their own threshing stone place!). During this time, the ox was allowed to eat freely as there were no "breaks" on the schedule and hence the scripture, "Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain"(Deuteronomy 25:4). We bless all those who labor in this field of G-d and for Eretz Israel's strengthening.
In this way, my husband Drake Fenn, continues to stand with me and Sephardim Hope International for the purposes of G-d. He is our family Moreh and Spiritual leader to our family of two children, Sean Allen in Brooklyn, NY and Tiffany Anne in CA. Here we light candles every Shabbat with our beautiful grand daughters, Audrey and Olivia whenever they can be with us, teaching them of their Jewish heritage. Drake has stood by this vision of the Sephardic Anusim(he may be Jewish on his mother's side and possibly his father also, but it has not been confirmed as yet) to help in any way that he can, from emotional support to website building, to lugging suitcases and helping teach others of this great vision of G-d. We will be married for 36 years this June 2nd.
The Gentile woman, Ruth made a surprising decision to follow her mother-in-law Naomi, into the land of Israel. She chose to support, stand by, work with and accept G-d, leaving her foreign background and upbringing. Hence, the book of Ruth ends with the genealogy of King David. The "covenant" between these two was never broken, but became one of the most beautiful stories in the Tenach of G-d's redemption.
Because of Mount Sinai 's revelation of the Torah and because of Ruth and Naomi's covenant, came King David, Jerusalem, The Temple Mount and the renewed Jewish nation of Israel in 1948. The beacon still shines brightly, although attacked by the nations on many sides. May righteousness arise in the land for its protection and heritage to prosper in these difficult times.
As the Good Book says in Jer. 23:3, 4 "Therefore I shall gather the remnant of My flock out of all the lands where I have driven them, and shall bring them back to their fold. And they shall bear and increase. And I shall raise up shepherds over them, and they shall feed them. And they shall fear no more, nor be discouraged, nor shall they be lacking, declares Adonai."
So we at Sephardim Hope International will continue our covenant relationship with our brothers and sisters of the lost Sephardic Anusim of Israel and those "Ruths" that stand with us no matter how difficult things may become. This is not "our vision", but the vision of G-d himself to restore, gather, comfort and redeem his chosen people. He will see that all is accomplished, as this is His field. He alone is our Boaz to help and shelter us.

Changes for our Anusim Center in Be'er Sheva Israel

Because of a large loan that was created to help in the purchase of our Anusim center in Be'er Sheva Israel that is now due, we have found no option yet, but to sell this condo unit in order to fully repay this obligation (base amount of loan is $80,000, plus costs). Unless HaShem brings another Sephardic Anusim, organization or individual who will come forward to help in this effort for repayment, we will have to work to reinvest for another place of hope for the exiles of Sepharad at a later time. We have worked very hard to keep this open, as one of the "deeds signed" on behalf of the returning Jewish exiled Anusim in the Negev, according to G-d's Torah prophets.
Jer 32:44
Men will buy fields for money, sign deeds and seal them, and take witnesses, in the land of Benjamin, in the places around Jerusalem, in the cities of Judah, in the cities of the mountains, in the cities of the lowland, and in the cities of the South; for I will cause their captives to return,' says the Lord."
We have brought several groups from the Americas to view the Negev and the city of Be'er Sheva at this center during the past 18 months, hosting lunches, guests and making friends in the community in Israel through specific tours for this educational work.
We know that we stand on G-d's word for this vision. He knows the times and seasons of his people. We humbly wait on his reply. In the meantime, we will do what is honorable and have immediately put this property "for sale" with our agent in Israel. Prayer is essential to this movement of restoration of G-d for his lost Sephardic Anusim of Israel. As we pray and unite our efforts, we will be a vital force to be a strength to one another and a force that will one day be a great blessing to Israel in demographics, IDF, business and investment of those who love HaShem and our Eretz Israel.
We know there are changes ahead for SHI and we are willing to adjust and move as G-d wills. The Negev stands waiting for her rightful owners. It is important that we rely on G-d and on one another during these difficult times in Israel and abroad. May HaShem lead us to the lost ones and bring his help from above. Our help, after all, is not in man. We will continue to look, not to the "hills" (people), but to G-d himself to provide, lead and comfort our people Israel. He is the G-d of deliverance.

May the Psalm 126 also comfort our hearts as scripture says, "Then our mouth was filled with laughter and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them. The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad. Turn again our captivity, O Lord, as the streams in the Negev (south). They that sow in tears shall reap in joy."
