You Can Change Lives with United Way

A Message From Your Campaign Chair

Dear United Way Friends,

Our community needs you.

These days, we are all living with uncertainty. But imagine the uncertainty of a single mother with two jobs who becomes sick unexpectedly. She will lose days at work and still have to afford food and housing in addition to her new medical bills. This kind of uncertainty could lead to job loss or homelessness. Right now, the number of homeless children in our region is at a nine-year high, and there's a waiting list for beds in emergency shelters.

Your donation to United Way can help families find stability -- and make a difference in the lives of thousands of children, adults and older adults in our region.

In fact, you're already making a difference. Rashella, Sheila and Mrs. Nichols are just three of the thousands of people you've helped with your  United Way gift, and you can see their success in their videos on the United Way website.

Your giving gets results, and every dollar counts. I hope we can count on you during the 2011 fundraising campaign to fill out a pledge form at your workplace, to run a campaign, or to give now online.

Thank you for your generosity.

The Age Wave Is Rising,

and Richmond Is Getting Ready

The number of people over the age of 65 in our region is going to double in the coming years. As the population of our region ages, the demand for services to help them will grow -- and our community needs to be ready.

That's why United Way and Senior Connections, the Capital Area Agency on Aging joined forces with more than 80 community stakeholders to draft the Greater Richmond Age Wave Plan. Last month, more than 200 members of the community reviewed the draft plan and provided feedback, perspective and insight during a day-long Regional Roundtable event. That feedback will be folded into the Plan's next draft, which will be presented to the community in the upcoming months.
