July Lunch & Learn: Gangs in Richmond
11:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 6
RSVP online
Every locality in our region is a home for gangs. What are they doing here, and how can we make sure that our children say "no" to their recruitment efforts? Join us for a discussion led by experts and learn the basics about local gangs, their activities, and what is being done locally and statewide to fight them.
This session will begin earlier than usual, in order to leave time for a question-and-answer period. We will still end at 1 p.m.
For lunch, enjoy pizza, dessert and a beverage provided by United Way, or bring your own.
Location: United Way, 2001 Maywill Street, Suite 201
Speakers:
- April D.R. Crawford, a certified gang specialist with the Office of the Attorney General and a member of the Virginia Gang Investigators Association. She works closely with Richmond's Gang Reduction and Intervention Program (G.R.I.P.) and coordinates statewide gang prevention, intervention and suppression efforts.
- The Richmond Police Department's Gang Unit.
August: Childhood Obesity
12 p.m. Wednesday, August 3
RSVP online
In Virginia, at least 30 percent of the children under age 18 have been classified as overweight or obese. What can we do to help our children get healthy? Local experts will talk about this trend and offer ideas and solutions. Speakers will include Jeannette Cordor, co-founder of The Faces of HOPE, a Richmond organization that fights childhood obesity.
