United Way's Women's Leadership Initiative

Volunteer to Change a Child's Life

Women's Leadership Initiative

From reading to children to helping them shop for back-to-school items, members of the  Women's Leadership Initiative take an active role to help prepare today's children to be tomorrow's leaders. You are invited to join them!

Spring Cleaning Volunteer Project: On Saturday, May 14, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., volunteers for this family-friendly project will clean toys and play areas at Capital Childcare Center. Disinfecting the toys provides a safe environment for the center's children. Cleaning supplies will be provided; please bring a pair of rubber gloves and bucket if possible. RSVP online or contact Elsie Donahoe at (804) 771-5888 or donahoee@yourunitedway.org.

Ongoing opportunities: New in 2011 are volunteer options for those who would like to regularly give their time. Visit our website and explore opportunities to work with children at the Friends Association, the Boys and Girls Club of Metro Richmond, and the Y.

Thank You, United Way Volunteers!

"I am passionate about working to find solutions to community problems. United Way is the best way to do that, and that's what keeps me involved."

~ Earnest Greene, Dominion employee and

since 2005, a Southside Leadership Council member

Mr. Greene is among more than 350 volunteers who contribute countless hours directly to United Way. Volunteers on our Action Councils, the Southside Leadership Council, and the Board of Directors steer the organization. Together with the Campaign Cabinet, Women's Leadership Initiative committee volunteers and Loyal Contributor committee volunteers, they all ensure that United Way is able to help people in need today and create long-term, sustainable change for the future. They are an integral part of United Way, and we thank them for their dedication and support!
