There are more than 20 million Americans who are balancing these responsibilities every day, and in July, they are recognized during Sandwich Generation Month

LaVerne found the help her family needed at A Grace Place Adult Care Center, a daytime program for seniors in Richmond that her mother attends five days a week. Watch the video to learn why LaVerne calls it "a blessing" for her family.

There is a great deal of support in our region for older adults and their caregivers. Thanks to generous donors like YOU, United Way is able to positively impact the lives of thouands of older adults!
  Older Adults Need Your Help
to Beat the Heat
  • During a heat wave, check on the older adults in your life, especially if they don't have air conditioning. Make sure they are staying hydrated. On the hottest days, help them find a cool place to spend time.
  • Donate to EnergyShare. The Dominion program offers heating and cooling assistance for those facing financial hardships.
  • Call 2-1-1. The Information & Referral Center at United Way can help older adults find resources to improve the quality of their lives.
Dive Into the Age Wave With Us

As the population of our region gets older, the demand for services to help them will grow. We are already feeling the pressure of the cresting "Age Wave," as the oldest Baby Boomers begin to retire and their parents continue to age.

Our community needs to be ready to support this growing aging population. United Way and Senior Connections, the Capital Area Agency on Aging are leading a coalition to create the Greater Richmond Age Wave Plan. It's an inclusive community effort, and we invite you to get involved:
