Detoxification is a necessary part of an Age Management Medicine program.
There is enough evidence today of a connection between chemical exposure and chronic health problems to understand that our herbicides, pesticides, household chemicals, food additives, etc., create a serious health problem.
We have known for a long time that your body stores toxins in your fat tissue if your liver can't get rid of them.
Your body's ability to naturally detoxify decreases as you age.
This is one reason why people have a hard time with body fat loss as they age, no matter what they do.
Now there is research published in the Obesity Research Journal this past year that shows that certain environmental toxins, specifically those that have the ability to disrupt your hormones, actually CAUSE your body to build new fat cells.
This research furthers the idea that you need to eat more organic foods as well as detox your body on a regular basis.
These practices will augment your body fat loss efforts and could help to prevent the development or worsening of lifestyle based diseases like Type 2 Diabetes, Obesity, Cancer, etc.,
There are some simple, inexpensive methods that can be incorporated easily to prevent and rid the body of toxins.
It is important to avoid all processed foods, even many from health food stores.
Most produce that is not organic is sprayed with toxic chemicals.
According to the Environmental Working Group, consumers can reduce their pesticide exposure by 80% by avoiding the most contaminated fruits and vegetables and eating only the cleanest.
If consumers get their USDA-recommended 5 daily servings of fruits and veggies from the 15 most contaminated, they could consume an average of 10 pesticides a day.
In this case, eating your fruits and vegetables would actually be detrimental to your health and increase your toxic burden.
Those who eat the 15 least contaminated conventionally grown produce ingest less than 2 pesticides daily.

The research is clear that many of these can act to disrupt our hormonal balance and make weight loss very difficult.
These toxins also increase our risk of getting disease, including cancer.
