Are you feeling as well as you could be? This is an important question that Age Management Medicine addresses.

After the age of 35, both men and women have a decline in hormones that affect how they feel, how they look and how they age.

In women, this decline in hormones happens over a five to ten year period. It usually starts in the late 30s or 40s and results in menopause, the absence of a menstrual cycle for one year.

Male menopause is called andropause. It usually occurs slowly over a thirty year period beginning in the thirties. There are many similarities between male andropause and female menopause.

What Is Age Management Medicine?

The Answers
happy man

The scientific world is undergoing a paradigm shift having to do with how we view our health and well- being as we age. We no longer have to succumb to the mental and physical declines associated with aging.Age Management Medicine, under the supervision of a trained and certified Age Management Medicine physician, can change your life right now.

What is Age Management Medicine?

This new specialty of medicine was created in 1993 by a small group of forward thinking physicians who formed the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M). Dr. Casas has been an active member of the A4M since she began her practice of Age Management Medicine.

Age Management Medicine is this new field of medicine that examines the research of what causes illness, what causes aging, what causes physical and mental function decline as we age.

Age Management Medicine physicians offer their patients individualized plans to slow and even reverse aging.

What is the difference between traditional medicine and Age Management Medicine?

Traditional medicine focuses on treating the effects of the aging process while Age Management Medicine is preventive and regenerative medicine that focuses on treating or preventing the causes of aging.

Traditional medicine predominantly treats external symptoms, which primarily have internal causes. In traditional medicine there is some mention of prevention, some advice about diet but little discussion as to the most hormonally correct type of diet for the human species. There is also some discussion about exercise ("you need to exercise more") but what kind of exercise and how much is rarely addressed.

Age Management Medicine, on the other hand, works to change the process of aging itself and in so doing, prevents many of the common lifestyle based diseases such as cancer, Type 2 Diabetes, heart disease, Metabolic Syndrome, Obesity, etc.,

Is Age Management Medicine also alternative or integrative medicine? The answer is NO.

Age Management Medicine is medicine which combines traditional principles with current, cutting edge research and medical and technological advances.

Is Age Management Medicine the same as Geriatric Medicine? The answer is NO. It is actually the opposite. Geriatric medicine helps people cope with the losses associated with aging. Age Management Medicine seeks to prevent and reverse the losses associated with aging. This is a big difference. The goal is to not only live longer but to live longer and live better.

Is Age Management Medicine about vanity and looking better? The answer is no. Regeneration is the ultimate expression of preventive medicine. The goal is to maintain function at the highest level, prevent disease and maintain health.

A side effect of Age Management Medicine is that you will look and feel younger with an improved body composition (muscle to fat ratio), improved skin appearance and the glow of wellness. The primary goal, however, is improved health and physical and mental well-being.

Is Age Management Medicine part of the obession with the physical and does it neglect the spiritual?

The answer again is NO.

When a person has good health and clear mental functioning, they are better able to pursue their spiritual path with strength and clarity; free from the distractions of illness. This is true spiritual freedom that takes a person to the next level of existence.

It is well understood from studying populations of people who live to be over 100 that spiritual beliefs and practices are a very important part of Age Management Medicine and that having spirituality helps to diminish disease and improve outcomes and acceptance of illness and death.

Age Management Medicine is the field of Medicine that examines the scientific research of what causes illness, what causes Aging and what causes the decline in physical and mental function as we age.

Age Management Medicine offers patients individualized plans to slow and even reverse the signs and symptoms of aging. It offers an improved quality of life and not just a longer life. It addresses the signs and symptoms of Andropause and Menopause which may begin as early as the late thirties.

A program in Age Management Medicine begins with a comprehensive lab evaluation, physical exam and in- depth initial medical consultation to design a proactive plan that addresses nutrition, exercise, supplementation and hormone balancing and replacement, if medically indicated.
