Breakthroughs in Age Management Medicine
Weight Loss Breakthrough
January 2009
Greetings!
Ana Casas M.D.

I hope your year 2009 is off to a wonderful and healthy start! I am very excited to share with you one of the most recent breakthroughs in Age Management Medicine and Weight (Body Fat) Loss Medicine.

A recent landmark controlled clinical study was recently published in the medical journal Nutrition and demonstrated a breakthrough in the area of weight loss and weight management medicine. In this study, humans taking this new natural compound, IGOB131, lost 28 pounds over a 10 week period compared to less than 3 pounds in the placebo (no medicine) group. These study participants did NOT change their diet in any way. In addition to body fat loss, these study participants also had a significant decrease in other blood markers such as cholesterol (decrease in LDL), blood sugar, and C Reactive Protein ( measure of inflammation).

Your first impression may be that this sounds too good to be true. I have reviewed the medical literature in detail and the results of the published landmark clinical trial in order to bring this information to my patients and help them achieve their weight loss and healthy aging goals. This is an exciting time in Age Management Medicine and in Weight Management Medicine.

This novel approach to weight loss and healthy aging is now available to my patients. This approach requires close supervison and monitoring and may eliminate the need for certain medications and supplements that the patient may be taking to lower cholesterol or blood sugar.

How IGOB131 Works:

This novel natural compound, IGOB131, works via 4 different ways to achieve healthy weight including:

1.REVERSING LEPTIN RESISTANCE ( a hormone that is very important in weight management),

2.INCREASING ADIPONECTIN ( a hormone that is crucial to body fat loss)

3. BLOCKING the fat converting enzyme GLYCEROL-3-PHOSPHATE DEHYDROGENASE (G3PD)

4.REDUCING CARBOHYDRATE (SUGAR) ABSORPTION from the foods that you eat.

IGOB131 AND WEIGHT LOSS

Weight Loss using this novel agent, IGOB131,should be undertaken while under the supervision of a physician. This historic study demonstrated more weight loss in a shorter period of time than any other compound ever tested. Participants took one capsule prior to lunch and one capsule prior to dinner for ten weeks. Participants in the study had significant improvements in body composition and reductions in blood measurements of cardiovascular and diabetes risk. Again, NO changes were made to their existing diets and no recommendations on exercise were made.

Precautions- this approach to weight loss is not intended for everyone. I will be discussing this breakthrough with each of my patients on an individual basis. Medical supervision is required because this approach may lower cholesterol and blood sugar significantly.

Optimal cholesterol levels range from 180-200 mg/dL. The goal is to have an LDL (bad cholesterol) of 100 mg/dL and an HDL (good cholesterol) above 60. In this clinical trial, LDL was decreased by 27%. While cholesterol over 200 mg/dL increases heart attack risk, a cholesterol below 150-160 mg/dL seems to increase risk of death. All hormones are made from cholesterol.

Type 2 Diabetics taking medications to lower blood sugar will also need very close supervision if using IGOB131 for weight loss. In this clinical trial, blood sugar was decreased by 22%. This was believed to be due to the fact that IGOB131 reduces the absorption of sugar. If a Type 2 Diabetic experiences significant weight loss from this approach, their need for medication may be reduced or eliminated.

Achieving Successful Weight Loss in 2009

As most of you know, simply eating less and exercising more is not enough to help most people remove excess body fat and keep it off. A comprehensive program is necessary to aggressively target the many factors that contribute to excess body fat. This is especially true as we get older.

There are many other factors involved, including hormones like insulin, leptin, ghrelin and adiponectin that affect body fat loss. Excess body fat is not only unsightly, it can be deadly, increasing the risk for heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. Abdominal fat is particularly dangerous.

A comprehensive fat-loss program includes improving insulin sensitivity, achieving youthful hormone balance, controlling the rate of carbohydrate absorption, increasing physical activity, normalizing brain serotonin, restoring energy expenditure rate, detoxifying the body and adopting a long-term healthy eating strategy. The rewards of removing excess body fat go far beyond a slim physique to the promise of a lengthy, disease-free life.
