5 New Foods to Burn Off Fat

Eat Your Way to a Lean Body
Ana Casas M.D.

All foods are not created equal. Food is medicine and the goal is to eat low calorie, nutrient dense foods that allow you to build lean muscle mass and burn body fat by increasing your metabolism.

I would like to discuss five foods which I have found beneficial in body fat loss. They are: 1. Salba- a natural, whole food grain rich in omega 3 fatty acids. 2.Kefir-a cultured food similar to a liquid yogurt which is rich in vitamins B1, B6,B12 and Vitamin K. It is also a muscle building complete protein rich in tryptophan. 3. Adzuki and Mung Beans- have healthy fats and are a good source of gamma linoleic acid (GLA). These fats increase the metabolic and fat burning power of the body. 4.Figs-fresh or dried the fig has been a reliable food source for centuries. They contain polyphenols-potent anti-cancer agents and are high in fiber. 5.Dark Chocolate- 70% or more cacao (not your Mars Bar or Milky Way kind) is rich in flavonoids, antioxidants, healthy fats and over 300 healthy compounds. Limit your daily intake to 100 grams or 3.5 ounces daily.

The food choices we make comprise the fuel that we put into our body. Build a lean and healthy body with the right proportion of lean muscle and body fat. Choose wisely and eat well. The key is not in depriving yourself- that is self-destructive. The key is in feeding yourself well with the foods that will help you to build the best you.

Hormone Test for Women

Are your Hormones Optimal?
Atlanta Age Management Medicine

Are your hormones optimal? Are you feeling your best? Hormone balancing and replacement is an essential part of healthy aging. As we age, we are unable to produce hormones as well as we did when we were younger and our health and well-being was optimal. Fortunately, hormone balancing and replacement with bio- identical hormones is now an option if you are a candidate for balancing or replacement.

Hormone Test for Men

Are your Hormones Optimal?

As a man ages, his hormones decline about 1-2% per year beginning in his late 30's. This decline in hormones can slowly lead to many of the signs and symptoms of aging that a man notices. Are your hormones optimal? Bio-Identical Hormone replacement is now available for men who are candidates for hormone balancing or replacement.

Smart Ways to Increase Lean Muscle Mass and Decrease Body Fat

5 Tips for the New Year
male torso

The following are just some tips to help you with your healthy aging: 1. Do Not Skip Meals- missing a meal slows down your metabolism and deprives your body of the nutrients that it needs. 2. Eat smaller and more frequent meals about every 3-4 hours. 3.Carry an apple and eat that instead of the bread in the bread basket offered at restaurants. The high fiber content of the apple will curb your appetite and is healthier than the bread in the bread basket. 4. Record Your Plan. Those who keep a record of what they eat and how much they exercise are more successful in reaching their goals. 5. Get Your Sleep- lack of sleep will sabotoge your fat loss efforts since two very important hormones which regulate appetite-ghrelin and leptin- are made when we sleep.

Testosterone May Prevent Alzheimer's Disease

Testosterone Replacement in Mice Slows Alzheimer's
Atlanta Age Management Medicine

The latest studies in Alzheimer's Disease prevention show that Testosterone Replacement in Mice Slows the accumulation of the protein, Beta Amyloid, in the brain known to cause Alzheimer's Disease. This holds great promise for the use of Testosterone in the prevention of this debilitating disease that affects so many and robs them of their memory.

2008 is a new year that holds promise for the development of further advances in preventive medicine. I wish you the best in this exciting new year. I hope that this year will bring health and happiness for you and your loved ones as you work towards achieving your healthy aging goals.

Sincerely,
