Quiggly's Spring Break workshops are offered the week of March 14 - 18, from 10am - 12pm. Workshop activities include pottery wheel and glass fusion (see our exciting project guide below)!
Register for one workshop only for $35. Register for two or more workshops and pay only $29 each! This discount applies for children attending two or more different workshops, as well as for parents registering two or more children. Register online, in person or over the phone!
Workshops are designed for both children as young as 4 years, and their parents of any age! (Parents are not required to remain during the workshop). First-timers will be guided through every activity step-by-step. Those with experience fusing glass or spinning pots will be challenged to engage in creative thinking and problem solving to design and execute projects that align with the workshop objectives and materials use, but may digress from the described end-product as defined below. (That's "Mr. Kirby-talk" for "if you've done this before, you're gonna have a great time!") Please don't hesitate to register today!
MONDAY, MARCH 14: POTTERY WHEEL
Spin with Mr. Kirby and Mrs. Tami and learn to make a whimsical, "hand-altered" teapot of Asian influence. In addition to this cool project, learn to hand-sculpt four pinched teacups. Children will also spin at least one additional vessel on the wheel of their choice- vase, bowl or drinking glass. This is perfect for beginners and our "seasoned" participants.
TUESDAY, MARCH 15: GLASS FUSION
Experience the Joy of GLITTERATI! Mr. Kirby and Mrs. Kristi recently acquired 32 square feet of the coolest glass for fusion EVER! It is a deep green color with speckles of electric-metallic green fire fused entirely through so the color shines both front and back- that's why we call it GLITTERATI! We will be using specific amounts of this amazing glass to create lush flower-garden scenes complete with spotted bugs in glistening grass. Projects will be 6" x 6" fusible into sushi trays, wall-hanging plaques, or hot plates. The choice is YOURS!
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 16: CANVAS PAINTING
We finally did it! Paint canvas with Mr. Kirby! Originally reserved only for our Art4Kids weekly class, Canvas Painting is now available in our seasonal workshop series. It is a fun "make-and-take" activity everyone loves! Children attending this workshop use acrylic paints on rigid canvas and learn to mix color and use various brush strokes and brush types. Mr. Kirby teaches a step-by-step process to design, execute and complete a composition you'll want to hang in your home!
THURSDAY, MARCH 17: GLASS FUSION
STRINGERS, RODS AND NOODLES, OH MY! Join us while they're still in stock! Can you imagine what 1/8 of a mile (432 feet) of stringers, rods and noodles would look like? That's what you'd get if we took all we had and lined them end to end. During this innovative glass fusion experience, children will design projects of balanced, geometric divisions using crisp, thin lines (stringers), flat stripes (noodles), and stippled dots (sliced rods), along with other glass materials. Projects can be fully fused for the floating-color look, or tact fused for a textured and tactile finished piece. Projects will be 6" x 6" fusible into sushi trays, wall-hanging plaques, or hot-plates. The choice is YOURS!
FRIDAY, MARCH 18: POTTERY WHEEL
Join us the last day of Spring Break and learn to "throw on the wheel." Children will create a set of matching flower bubbly bud vases just in time for Spring! Taller, thinner vases are ideal for fresh-cut flowers. Shorter, fatter vases are a great for ivy clippings as they provide more space for roots to develop. We will also hand-sculpt a nesting tray for your vases to rest upon! It's the perfect project for our friends with green thumbs (although they'll be clayed-gray during the workshop)!
