Greetings NorthEast SAS Users!2012 Logo with Tag

Can you believe it?! In just a few weeks we will all be together at NESUG's 25th conference! We are looking forward to all the presentations and workshops we have planned and to seeing all our old friends and meeting some new ones too. Besides the presentations we'll have some networking events and maybe a few birthday surprises! We invite you to attend and share the opportunities!

To celebrate the 25th anniversary NESUG, we extended the early registration deadline through October 25th. But you don't have to wait until the last minute. Register now!

When you register, it's a good idea to book your hotel room as well. We have arranged an excellent rate at the Renaissance Harborplace, where all of the sessions will be held. The Renaissance Harborplace is conveniently located at Baltimore's Inner Harbor, with great shopping, entertainment, and the National Aquarium. No other hotel in the area has the same combination of convenience, quality, and price. Book now!

NESUG has an excellent set of papers this year! We believe they will be of great benefit to all users. You can review the list of all the presentations and posters here.

Finally, make sure you also plan some time out of the hotel to enjoy Baltimore. Get more ideas here.

See you in Baltimore!

Registration Gift for the 25th

In honor of our birthday, every 25th registrant will get a $25 SAS  Publishing gift card. You'll get the card when you check in at the conference. Good Luck!!

Free Wireless

Concerned about staying in touch with the office while at NESUG? Don't   be. We've arranged for free wireless internet throughout the fifth floor conference area, and for a discount on in-room internet at the Renaissance. The free wireless access in the meeting space area also means that smartphone users will be able to access our mobile app that has ALL sorts of conference information. Browse abstracts, build a personal schedule, message other conference attendees - the mobile app and free wireless access will allow all that!

Opening Session Dinner and Keynote

Enjoy an excellent networking opportunity and learn about "Big Data and Small Devices" during Rick Langton of SAS' keynote at the Opening Session Dinner on Sunday night!

Proc Trivia!

After the Opening Session, come on over to the NESUG Game Show. This NESUG favorite is back again with promises of more fun and excitement as MCs Rick Mitchell and Daphne Ewing lead this outrageous audience participation event.  This Jeopardy-style contest has all sorts of SAS trivia questions, so whether you have just started tinkering with SAS or are a seasoned SAS veteran, come out and test your SAS wits and share a few laughs. For those of you who are a little shy, don't worry, you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

Dinner on the Town

In order to unwind and network in a more relaxed atmosphere, we are bringing back "Dinner on the Town." We'll have sign-up sheets so that you can connect with like-minded attendees to have dinner on Monday at area restaurants.  (Dinner will be at your own expense.)

Spotlight on SAS

On Tuesday morning, join us for "Spotlight on SAS" to hear what's new  and exciting at SAS. This year we are pleased to have Paul Kent, Vince DelGobbo, Maura Stokes, and Rick Langston from SAS talk about what their new projects. This is a rare opportunity to interact face to face with those leaders responsible for the direction SAS is going. There will be a Q&A at the end of the session.

You're Invited to a Birthday Party

On Tuesday evening, gather with everyone you have met throughout the conference, relax and enjoy music, dancing and some birthday surprises.

Volunteer

NESUG is an all-volunteer organization so we always need your help.

We particularly need people to help with various operations tasks. If you are arriving early, come on over on Saturday and help us with the "Bagging Party." This is when we take all of our registration materials and stuff them in to the tote bags that you get when you register.

Everyone is qualified - we've had Ph.D.'s and 6-year olds do it. Join the crowd, meet fellow attendees, and help us out.

Technical Tip

Wendi Wright is a Sr. Statistical Analyst at McGraw-Hill and has been using SAS for over 20 years writing custom analysis and reporting programs.   She has enjoyed presenting in many SAS conferences and enjoys the teaching aspect of both the conferences and her job. She has been presenting and volunteering at NESUG for years and she is doing several presentations again this year.

Here is a tech Tip from one of her papers listed above. At the conference you can get more information like this and you can talk to Wendi about it too.

Using PROC Tabulate with PROC Format and ODS Style Options to Add Pictures to your Table

To add pictures to your PROC TABULATE table, create your pictures (here they are GIF figures) and place them in the same document your output HTML file is also going to be placed. Then use the following PROC FORMAT to identify the figures to a value in your table. The code below will add a figure to the column header cell. Note the use of the POSTIMAGE= option to identify the format with the GIF figures identified.

PROC FORMAT;

            VALUE $gendGif

                        'M'='bluebutterfly.gif'

                        'F'='pinkbutterfly.gif';

RUN;

ODSHTMLfile='c:\myfile.HTML';

PROC TABULATE data=one;

            CLASS GENDER;

            CLASSLEV gender / S=[VJust=T postimage=$gendGif. Cellwidth=80];

            VAR income;

            TABLE income * (N Mean)

                        INCOME * MEAN * GENDER;

RUN;

ODSHTMLCLOSE;
