A "Can't Miss" Keynote Address

Don't miss our special keynote presentation presented by SAS Chief Information Officer, Suzanne Gordon. For some time the economic climate has had all of us watching the news, reading the newspaper, and wondering how our own situation would be affected. For many of us, our job is tied closely to the effects of economic changes on SAS usage.

How have companies changed the way they use SAS? How has the value of your SAS experience changed in the marketplace? Or how has your SAS expertise kept you employed, and what can you do to make it impossible for your employer to lose you?

In her address entitled "Prospering in a Down Economy: Strategies for SAS Users," Suzanne will offer valuable, objective information to those who have dedicated their careers to SAS software.

by Lauren Haworth

Lauren Haworth is an Associate Director of Statistical Programming at Genentech, Inc., in South San Francisco. She has been using SAS since 1988, and specializes in analysis and reporting for clinical trials. Lauren is the author of two books in the SAS Books by Users series: "PROC TABULATE by Example" and "Output Delivery System: The Basics and Beyond" (release date: Summer 2009). Lauren will be the Conference Chair of  SAS Global Forum 2010 in Seattle.

Lauren will preview the most essential intermediate ODS topics in her September 13th NESUG Sunday Workshop. The content comes from the new book mentioned above featuring broad coverage of the best ODS features in SAS 9.2.

A Sneak Peek at a New ODS Book (and NESUG Sunday Workshop)

A favorite new tip from the book:

Adding a date to a header or footer provides useful information about when a file was created or modified. By default, ODS inserts an RTF control string that corresponds to the Word date field in the page header of RTF output. This means that the date value is updated to the current date each time the file is opened. If you'd prefer the document to reflect the date the program was run, you just need to add one option to your ODS RTF statement:

ODS RTF FILE='StaticDate.rtf' SASDATE;

By adding this option, SAS will insert text for the current date when the program was run. Remember that the SAS date is actually the time and date that you started your SAS session. So, if a programmer keeps his/her session open for days at a time, this date might not correspond to the actual date the program was run.

About the book:

Output Delivery System: The Basics and Beyond goes beyond Lauren Haworth's original ODS text to demonstrate the many new and enhanced features of ODS and SAS 9.2. With SAS 9.2, ODS provides a myriad of choices for reporting and displaying analytical results with a greater variety of formatting selections and output destinations. As experienced SAS users, Lauren E. Haworth, Cynthia L. Zender, and Michele M. Burlew know how important it is to be able to produce customized output in different formats to meet the needs of clients. Geared toward all levels of SAS users, Output Delivery System is an example-driven book that presents each of the wide array of ODS techniques in an easy-to-use, two-page layout, with the text and code on one page and the resulting output on the facing page.
