After nearly eight years of dedicated leadership, Brother Ronald Gallagher has decided to step down from his role as president and return to the faculty when his current term ends on June 30, 2013. An international search for his replacement, assisted by a leading executive search firm, will begin this summer. Read more.

Veterans Memorial Garden  
The project initiated by a student organization on campus aims to create a memorial and appreciation garden for Saint Mary's military veterans, including those who attended the Naval Pre-Flight School from 1942 to 1946.

Student Summer Fellowship Adventures 
Four undergraduates are working at various nonprofit orgnizations in West Oakland as part of CILSA's Micah Summer Fellowship. Check out their blog. Senior Julie Cozzetto is spending eight weeks in Alaska funded by the SMC Alumni Summer Fellowship. Follow her blog.

A new M.A. in Leadership for Social Justice launched in June. It is designed to enhance the leadership skills of nonprofit managers, community organizers, direct service providers and others committed to social change.

  ATHLETIC NEWS

Gaels Head to Olympics

Senior guard Matthew Dellavedova and alumnus Patty Mills have been chosen for Australia's Olympic basketball team. In addition, women's volleyball head coach Rob Browning will manage the USA men's volleyball team.   

 

Four Baseball Players Drafted 

Senior catcher Toby DeMello was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 27th round; junior third baseman Patrick Wisdom was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals with the 52nd overall pick; junior pitcher Martin Agosta was selected by the San Francisco Giants with the 84th pick in the second round; and Kyle Barraclough was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the seventh round. 

 

WCC All-Sports AwardSMC Honored as Best Men's Sports Program in WCC
Following three WCC Championships this season -- men' soccer, men's basketball and men's golf -- Saint Mary's has been recognized as the best men's sports program in the West Coast Conference. Congratulations, Gaels!

 

Three Gaels Qualify for U.S. Public Links 

Senior Ben Geyer, junior Alex Bungert and sophomore Cody Robinson qualified for the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship on July 9-14.   

 

Coach Mac dedicated more than 30 years of service to the College as both a coach and educator. Join fellow Gaels at the 5th Quarter Family Picnic on July 28 to share memories and gather with former players, family and friends.
