Together and by AssociationDe La Salle Week
April 22 - 29, 2012
This year's De La Salle Week, Together and by Association, will bring the Saint Mary's community together to celebrate our Lasallian heritage. Festivities include the Annual Run 4 Hunger, community barbecue, Lasallian Leadership 5-Core Dinner, a mass with Friar Louie Vitale, Saint Mary's Annual Convocation, Carnival 4 Kids and a meditation workshop. Join us!

As students from Saint Mary's and other colleges throughout the state lobbied their legislators to preserve Cal Grant funds, a state assembly budget panel voted 4-0 to oppose the governor's proposal to slash the grants by about 44 percent. But this is not the end of the battle to save Cal Grants. Learn how you can take action.

For a sixth straight year, Saint Mary's has been listed on the 2012 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction. SMC students provided nearly 40,000 hours of service last year in the U.S. and abroad.

More than 2,240 alumni have made a donation to Saint Mary's so far this year. See how your class's participation compares to the rest, and make a difference with a gift!

Saint Mary's joins more than 270 graduate and undergraduate business programs in joining Net Impact, a volunteer-led network of university chapters focusing on corporate responsibility, social entrepreneurship and sustainability programs for the corporate world.

  ATHLETIC NEWS

UOP Tigers Pacific Joins the West Coast Conference
University of the Pacific has accepted an invitation to rejoin the WCC in 2013. Pacific was one of the five founding members of the WCC in 1952-53 and remained in the Conference until 1971.

Women's tennis (11-5, 4-0 WCC) cruised through conference play with a win over San Francisco, Gonzaga, Portland and BYU.

In a preseason poll of WCC head coaches, the Gaels were favored to win the conference championship, with juniors Ben Geyer and Mac McClung being named to the preseason all-conference team.

SMC welcomed the men's basketball team home from Omaha after a narrow 72-69 loss to Purdue in the NCAA Tournament and a memorable 2011-12 season. View a video and photo galleries of the NCAA experience and watch parties, read the Mercury News recap of the season and read stories about the team on Gael Hoops 2012.

Women's basketball defeated UNLV 71-63 in the first round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament but later fell to Oregon State 56-41. They finished the year with a 22-11 record, tying the second highest win tally in SMC history.
