Cal Grant, Low-Income Students in Jeopardy 

If passed, the governor's proposed budget will reduce Cal Grant funding for nearly 700 low-income students at Saint Mary's by 44 percent, or $2.3 million. Please help save this funding that is so critical to the College's mission. Write your elected officials today.

SMC students in the Jan Term "People of Rwanda" class met the country director of CARE, helped with development projects and even taught the locals "The Macarena." Here in the U.S., students mingled with the glitterati at the Sundance Film Festival.  

 

Ariel Luckey"Crossing Borders" Brings

Saint Mary's invited the former warden of San Quentin Jeanne Woodford, prolific writer and cultural historian Rebecca Solnit, and artist and activist Ariel Luckey as part of the Jan Term Speaker Series.

SMC Receives Digital Learning Grant

Saint Mary's received a $250,000 grant from the W.M. Keck Foundation to fund the Digital Studies Across the Curriculum project.

Brother Mel Anderson's presidency spanned a time of great change at Saint Mary's. Years of Yearning highlights the societal, academic and financial complexities that surrounded the campus during 1969 to 1997. 

 

Former Trustee and Regent Passes Away

Saint Mary's lost one of its most steadfast donors and volunteers on January 11. The McKeon Pavilion, home of the Gaels, was funded through the generosity of Mrs. McKeon and her late husband, George R. McKeon.

Jordan PageGaels Move Up

in National Rankings 

After an 11-game winning streak, the men's basketball program received its highest national ranking in 50 years at #16 (ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll) and #18 (Associated Press).  

 

Gaels Draw Murray State in Sears BracketBusters

On February 18 at 3 p.m. (Pacific), men's basketball will face undefeated Murray State at CSFB Center. Watch the game on either ESPN or ESPN2 with a live audio stream also available on SMCGaels.com.

  

Women Take on No. 22 BYU this Saturday

The Gaels (16-7, 7-3 West Coast Conference) will head to Provo to take on BYU (20-3, 8-1 WCC) at the Marriott Center. Last week, they defeated Santa Clara 72-52 and led Gonzaga before the Zags came away with a 75-70 victory in the final minute.

 

Opening Day for Baseball

On February 17 at 2 p.m., the Gaels will open 2012 play against Southern Utah on the new Louis Guisto Field. After the game, players, coaches, alumni and fans will gather for the 2012 Meet the Players Night in the Soda Center.
