Congratulations to the Class of 2011!
On May 21, more than 530 students participated in the College's 148th undergraduate commencement ceremony. Commencement speaker Sherie Swiess Dodsworth '78, CEO of Securita, Inc., was the first female president of the Alumni Association and the first Alumna of the Year award recipient.
Celebrations continued on May 22 as nearly 400 students participated in the Graduate and Professional Commencement. Sunne Wright McPeak, president of the California Emerging Technology Fund, delivered an inspiring commencement address.
Recognition for Service by President Obama
Saint Mary's is one of only 17 institutions nationally recognized as a finalist on the 2010 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
Saint Mary's Life-Changing Travel Courses
ABC-7 / KGO-TV aired a feature story about Saint Mary's Jan Term travel courses, featuring Professors Myrna Santiago and Shawny Anderson, with cameos by SMC students and recent graduates.
Kennedy Center Theater Festival Honors
Five members of the Saint Mary's community received distinguished achievement awards for work on recent theatrical productions, including "Angels in America" and "Sera."
Professor Sloane on U.S. Afghanistan Policy
The Oakland Tribune featured an Op-Ed by Politics Professor Stephen Sloane about the need to rethink U.S. military policy in the wake of the elimination of Osama bin Laden.
Professor Ahmed Referenced as Notable Middle East Analyst
The Los Angeles Times included observations of Politics Professor Hisham Ahmed among other notable Middle East analysts in a story about Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
Seniors Celebrate at Zero Year Reunion
This spring, 280 seniors from the Class of 2011 donated more than $4,400 - a record 54% class participation! The Senior Gift Campaign finished the year by celebrating their success at Zero Year Reunion, where they were officially welcomed into the Alumni Association.
Gaels in Wine Gathered at Peju Province
Last month, more than 30 members of the Gaels in Wine Alumni Chapter gathered at Peju Province Winery in Rutherford for a tour, barrel tasting, picnic and sampling of wines from member wineries. The chapter will be well represented at the Summer Wine Festival on campus on August 14.
Clars Auction to Benefit the Hearst Art Gallery
On Saturday and Sunday, September 10-11, join alumni and friends at Clars Auction House in Oakland, featuring artwork and fine wines.
