De La Salle WeekDe La Salle Week is April 2-10

Alumni are invited back to campus to participate in De La Salle Week as we celebrate our Lasallian mission and heritage.

 

Festivities include a meditation workshop, 4th Annual Run 4 Hunger, a community barbecue, Lasallian Leadership 5-Core Dinner, Soup and Substance, a presentation by Jimmie Briggs - author, advocate and founder of the Man Up Campaign, a social with the Christian Brothers and Carnival 4 Kids.

Saint Mary's Selected as Presidential Debate Finalist

The Commission on Presidential Debates has announced that Saint Mary's is one of 12 colleges under consideration to host a 2012 general election presidential debate. The debate also would serve as a cornerstone event for the College's 150th anniversary celebration during the 2012-13 academic year.

 

State of College AddressState of the College Address 

Last month, Brother President Ronald Gallagher addressed the College community on our mission, enrollment, affordability, quality of experience, facilities and his vision for the future.   

 

Annual Report is Now Online 

The 2010 edition of Saint Mary's Annual Report, Fulfilling Promise, is now available online. Highlights include a year in review, student research findings, an inspiring teacher and an overview of philanthropic support. 

 

Students Lobby for Cal Grants in Sacramento 

For 630 Saint Mary's students, or 25% of all undergraduates, the Cal Grant represents a substantial portion of their financial aid package. Four SMC students attended the annual Cal Grant Lobby Day to meet with legislators and discuss the impact Cal Grants have made on their ability to pursue higher education.

 

Sherie DodsworthCommencement Speakers for 2011   

Entrepreneur and California broadband advocate Sherie Swiess Dodsworth '78 will deliver the undergraduate Commencement address on May 21, while Sunne Wright McPeak, president and CEO of the California Emerging Technology Fund, will address the graduate students on May 22.

Time is running out - this is your last chance to register for the International Management study abroad course from June 29 - July 6 in Mumbai and Goa. All graduate business alumni are invited to take this course with our current students.  

 

Angels Among UsAngels Among Us 

The spring performing arts production, Angels Among Us will take place from April 5-13 outside on the Chapel Plaza. The festival of plays will consist of two parts: the Old Testament and the New Testament. General admission tickets are $10.  

 

"Third Fridays" Social Mixer in Walnut Creek 

The Graduate Business Alumni Association invites you to join fellow Gaels on Friday, April 15, 5-7 p.m., at Stanford's in Walnut Creek. All alumni welcome!    

 

Upcoming Bible Speaker Series Lecture 

Join us on Monday, May 2, for a discussion on The Book of Revelation with Saint Mary's Professor Zach Flanagin. This event is free and open to the public.

 

ACN 2011Asian Cultural Night  

This year's ACN, themed Outside the Box, will take place on Thursday, May 5, in the Soda Center. Enjoy a full-course, pan-Asian dinner and student performances. Tickets on sale starting April 11 for $10.  

 

Save the Date for Reunion Weekend 2011 

Graduates of  '36, '41, '46, '51, '56, '61, '66, '71, '76, '81, '86, '91, '96, '01 and '06 will celebrate their reunions this summer, from Friday, July 15 - Sunday, July 17. Come back home to Saint Mary's College! 

 

Civil War Re-enactmentRe-enactors Bring Civil War to Saint Mary's 

Last month, the National Civil War Association and the Hearst Art Gallery staged an artillery demonstration and showed off 19th-century uniforms, dress and life skills.  

ATHLETIC NEWS & EVENTS

McConnell Named to NABC All-Star Game 

Senior guard Mickey McConnell has been selected by the National Association of Basketball Coaches to play for the West All-Stars at the annual Reese's College All-Star game, as part of the 2011 NCAA Final Four, today at 2:35 p.m. at Reliant Stadium. Tune in for the game on TruTV. 

 

Rugby Hall of Fame Museum Inducts Pat Vincent 

The United States Rugby Football Foundation announced the launch of its Rugby Hall of Fame Museum. As a precursor to the museum, the Foundation began inducting people into its Founder's Circle, including Saint Mary's Coach Pat Vincent.

 

Rowing Defeats Rival in Pac-10 Challenge 

Last weekend, both varsity-8 boats defeated WCC rival Santa Clara at the Pac-10 Women's Challenge at Redwood Shores, Calif. The Gaels will next row in the San Diego Crew Classic on April 2.

 

BaseballBaseball Sweeps New Orleans 

Junior starting pitcher Kyle Barraclough threw just 109 pitches in his first career complete game shutout, limiting the Privateers to three hits. The Gaels scored early and completed the sweep over New Orleans winning 7-0 at Laney College.

 

Men's Basketball Year-End Banquet 

Join us on Wednesday, April 13, to celebrate the end of a WCC title-winning season for the Gaels. Tickets are $30; player and table sponsorships are available.

 

So Cal Gael Golf15th Southern California Gael Golf Classic 

A few spaces are still available for this annual tournament benefiting Saint Mary's Athletics. Join us for lunch and golf and South Hills Country Club, followed by an awards dinner and auction.

 

Gael Golf32nd Gael Golf Classic 

Join us on Monday, May 2, at the Blackhawk Country Club for the 32nd Gael Golf Classic, benefiting Saint Mary's Athletics. Sign up by April 18 for the early bird price of $275 per golfer. 

 

Men's Basketball Priority Seating Program 

Starting with the 2011-12 season, Saint Mary's Athletics will implement a priority seating program that requires a minimum annual donation to the College in order to purcahse seats in the three premium sections (courtside, VIP and lower reserved).
