Following a national search, physics and astronomy professor Roy Wensley has been appointed dean of the School of Science, effective January 1.

The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival has recognized SMC's production of "Angels in America," a play by Tony Kushner, as one of only four college productions from Region VII invited to perform at the regional festival in February.

Mickey McConnell Nominated for Bob Cousy Award

Senior point guard Mickey McConnell has been nominated for the Bob Cousy Award, given annually to the top men's basketball point guard in the NCAA. Selection criteria emphasize leadership, team work and success. The winner will be selected by the Blue Ribbon Selection Committee in early 2011. 


Basketball Viewing Party in New York City

Join NYC-area Gaels at the LMU vs. SMC viewing party on Thursday, January 6, at 8 p.m. Enjoy our first nationally televised WCC game of the season at the Australian Bar and Restaurant in midtown Manhattan.


Baseball Meet the Players NightBaseball Meet the Players Night

Get ready for another season of Gaels baseball and meet the 2011 team on Saturday, Jan. 22. The keynote speaker is Gregg Jefferies, a 14-year major league veteran, two-time National League All-Star and Bay Area native. 


Men's Lacrosse Alumni Game, Dinner and Auction

On Saturday, January 29, join men's lacrosse alumni and friends at the Annual Alumni Game, Dinner and Auction. The game starts at 1 p.m. - rain or shine - with the social, dinner and auction to follow at 6 p.m. in the Soda Center. Tickets are $30 per person.


Gael Spotlight on Alex Poorta

Saint Mary's women's tennis player Alex Poorta enters her final season at SMC after helping the Gaels win their first ever WCC Tournament Championship in 2010.  Poorta has been named All-WCC First Team in singles and doubles for the past two seasons and is currently ranked No. 87 in the NCAA Division 1 Singles Preseason Rankings.
