Saint Mary's College to Host
U.S. Senate Candidate Debate on September 1, 2010
Saint Mary's will host the first U.S. senatorial debate between imcumbent Democrat Barbara Boxer and Republican challenger Carly Fiorina this evening, Wednesday, September 1, at 7 p.m.
 
The one-hour debate will be held before a live audience in the College's LeFevre Theatre and will be the first time both candidates will face off in an open forum.
 
Sponsored and broadcast live by KTVU Channel 2 News, the San Francisco Chronicle and KQED Public Radio, the debate will be moderated by KTVU political editor Randy Shandobil.

Forbes RankingForbes Magazine Ranks Saint Mary's No. 85
Saint Mary's College is listed as one of the nation's top institutions of higher education in Forbes' third annual report on America's Best Colleges. The College was ranked No. 85 in the nation and No. 9 in California. According to Forbes, the 2010 college rankings are based on the quality of the education they provide, the experiences of the students and how much they achieve.

Week of WelcomeClass of 2014 Arrives
The biggest and most accomplished class in Saint Mary's College history arrived on campus last week and plunged into campus life in an event-filled Weekend of Welcome. The new class of 695 incoming freshmen and 215 transfer students includes 137 honor students - a 44 percent increase over last year.

The Contra Costs Times profiled Rosemary Graham's new novel for young adults, Stalker Girl. Graham is a professor in Saint Mary's department of English and MFA Creative Writing Program.

Wine Festival a SuccessSummer Wine Festival a Success
On August 15, more than 400 alumni and friends gathered in the Soda Center for the 6th Annual Summer Wine Festival. Attendees enjoyed samples from 33 wineries, one brewery and a handful of food vendors. More than $13,000 was raised to support the Alumni Lasallian Scholarship.

Graduate Business Golf Tournament Was "Best So Far"
On August 16, more than 120 golfers enjoyed a sunny afternoon of golf, followed by an awards banquet, dinner and raffle at the historic Diablo Country Club. This is just one of many events offered by the Graduate Business Alumni Council, whose mission is to "Network, Learn and Serve."

On Thursday, September 9, join Saint Mary's Athletics at Grissini Trattoria in the Concord Hilton. A five-course gourmet meal will be paired with St. Supery wines chosen by Grissini's chef. Proceeds benefit the Gael Athletic Fund.

BYU to Join the WCC in 2011-12
BYU to Join the WCC
The West Coast Conference has announced that Brigham Young University has formally accepted an invitation to join the WCC with competition to begin in the 2011-12 academic year. BYU will compete in the WCC in baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf, women's soccer, men's and women's tennis and women's volleyball.

Madden Scores in Overtime for Women's Soccer 4-3 WinMadden Scores in Overtime for Women's Soccer 4-3 Win
SMC freshman defender, Melinda Madden, scored her first collegiate goal 6:11 into overtime, lifting the Gaels to a 4-3 win over the University of North Florida Ospreys.

Men's soccer will play its first official game of the season on Friday, September 3, when they take on Cal State Fullerton at 4:00 p.m. from Saint Mary's Stadium.

Rick CroyNew Assistant Coach Hired for Men's Basketball
Head coach Randy Bennett announced the hiring of Rick Croy as an assistant coach for the men's basketball program. Croy comes to Saint Mary's from Citrus College and replaces Mark Campbell, who took a position at Oregon State.
