SMC Celebrates Robert W. Summers $1 Million Scholarship Endowment Students at Saint Mary's who are considering careers in the health science and
journalism fields, but need help paying for college, have a new scholarship fund to
apply to for assistance. On Nov. 6, the College celebrated a scholarship endowment from
the estate of Robert W. Summers in the amount of $1 million.

Professor Gerard Capriulo, a Leading Marine Biologist and Biology Department Chair, Dies Suddenly Professor Gerard "Gerry"
Capriulo, the Fletcher Jones Professor of Marine Biology and chairman of the Biology
Department at Saint Mary's College, died suddenly on Nov. 15 at his home in Clayton. He
was 56.
Saint Mary's is having a Memorial Mass for Professor Capriulo in the College Chapel on
Friday, Dec. 4, at 12:45 p.m., followed by a reception in the Soda Center.

East Bay and Sacramento SMC Alumni Christmas Parties Celebrate the holidays with your fellow Gaels in Sacramento and the East Bay. Sacramento alumni will be gathering at Chicago Fire Pizza on Thursday, Dec. 10 and East Bay alumni will be at 1515 restaurant in Walnut Creek on Monday, Dec. 14. Gaels Basketball Players Host Clinic for Special Olympics Athletes Saint Mary's men and women's basketball programs took a break from their last week of
training before preseason started to do some volunteer work. The Gaels hosted a
Special Olympics Skills Clinic on Nov. 8 at McKeon Pavilion. The two-hour event
was free and open to all ages and skill levels, and 65 participants received a free
T-shirt and a ticket to the men's basketball game versus Pacific.

Liturgy of Lights This annual Sunday Mass brings together students, faculty, staff, Christian
Brothers, and alumni of Saint Mary's College. This year, the Liturgy of Lights
will occur in the Chapel on Sunday, Dec. 6, at 8 p.m. Following the liturgy, you are invited to a
Christmas celebration party complete with tree lighting, Christmas carols,
festive food, and fellowship.

Women's Volleyball Wins Conference Championship For the second straight year, and third time under head coach Rob Browning,
the Saint Mary's women's volleyball team has advanced to the
NCAA Tournament. Saint Mary's, ranked No. 21 in the country, will
travel to Palo Alto, facing UC Santa Barbara in the first round on
Friday, December 4 at 5 p.m. in Maples Pavilion. Read more.
Men's Soccer Invited to NCAA Tournament In a record-breaking season, the men's soccer team was invited to the NCAA tournament for the first time in the school's history. The season came to an end after falling to Stanford in the first round. Read more.
Gael Online Auction SMC athletics is hosting an online auction with proceeds going to benefit student-athletes. Tickets, fan experiences and memorabilia, including
two men's basketball game-worn jerseys, are available. The auction will end Dec. 3. Go to the auction.
