Change in Alumni Relations Staff Lloyd Schine III '98 has stepped down after six years as the director of Alumni Relations. Schine, who holds two degrees from the College, has entered the teaching credential program and has begun student teaching this fall. Chris Carter '97, has assumed the role of acting director while a search for Schine's successor begins. Brother Martin Ash '62 is joining the alumni relations staff as a new special projects coordinator.
White House Partner on Faith-Based Initiatives Visits Saint Mary's The College's yearlong Interfaith Initiative project
features guest speaker Eboo Patel on Sept. 15. Recently appointed by President Obama to the
Advisory Council of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood
Partnerships, Patel's lecture is part of a yearlong interfaith initiative sponsored by the
Center for Engaged Religious Pluralism and others at SMC. Read more.
Class of '32 Valedictorian Dies Robert McAndrews '32, who was in the first class at Saint Mary's College to go
through all four years at its campus in Moraga, died Aug. 24. Mr. McAndrews, who
lived in Dana Point, was 98. Read more.
Summer Wine Festival Draws Hundreds More than 500 people attended this year's Summer Wine Festival, which featured 40 wineries (many-alumni owned). All event proceeds benefited the Lasallian Scholarship Fund, designed specifically for children and grandchildren of alumni. Thank you to all who came out. See the pictures.
Undergraduate Classes Begin The campus is buzzing as freshmen begin their SMC journey and the rest of the students return. The class of 2013 moved in Aug. 27 and classes started yesterday. See the move-in day slide show.
Black Alumni Chapter Meet and Greet Come to the campus Intercultural Center (Delphine Lounge) on Sept. 10 from 5:30 to 7
p.m. and interact with new students and members of the Black Student Union.
Admission is free, however, you can sponsor a student for $10. There will be a
meal provided. The attire is business casual. RSVP for this event.

James L. Hagerty Lecture Come to campus on Sept. 12 for the annual James L. Hagerty Memorial Lecture featuring Thomas
J. Slakey '52. This year's lecture, titled "In the World but not of the World,"
will focus on Christian life and the implications for a Catholic college. The
day will also include lunch, Mass and seminars. Learn more.
Graduate Business Golf Tournament Doubles its Numbers More than 100 alumni, faculty and staff enjoyed a day of golf at Diablo Country Club. That's twice the number that attended the previous year's event. The Graduate Business Alumni chapter, which has been growing at a significant pace, has been offering educational and networking opportunities throughout the Bay Area and Sacramento. Waterski Club Alumni are invited to come out and support the newly formed Saint Mary's Waterski and Wakeboard team as they compete in the Pacific and Northwest Conference. The team captain, Brian Detrick, is currently ranked No. 34 in the world for under 21 men's slalom. Learn more.
