Linde Waite
Greetings!,

I want to take this moment to thank you so much for being a part of the Alumni-Admissions family. When meeting with students, parents and counselors, we continue to discover anew how invaluable our alumni are to spreading the news about Saint Mary's College. We continue to see that student interest is high, recognition of the college is ever-growing, and we still have the potential to increase our applicant pool. Thank you for continuing to promote the college in your day-to-day encounters with students and parents, and for your future efforts throughout the spring. I look forward to working with you to lead our admitted students further down the funnel toward enrollment!

GO GAELS!

CONTACTING ADMITTED STUDENTS
The Admissions Office needs all available AAP members to loosen up their fingers for this year's email and phone-a-thon. With a dip in applications this year, concentrating on the application pool at hand to convey the SMC message is of utmost importance. Brighten a student's day by calling and congratulating them on their admission. To sign up, please email Linde as soon as possible.

SPRING COLLEGE FAIRS
Are there college fairs in the spring? Absolutely! Check the website frequently for new college fairs in your area at www.stmarys-ca.edu/aap/collegefairs.

Rev. Greg Schaefer with Martin SheenAAP PROFILER: Pastor Greg Schaefer '98
It is our distinct honor to introduce to you a new and outstanding AAP member from Palo Alto: Pastor Greg Schaefer from the class of 1998. Greg originally grew up in Oakland, and attended Saint Mary's with a major in religious studies. When asked why he originally chose SMC, Greg says that he paid close attention to the personal recommendations of a high school teacher and his mother, both of whom were familiar with the College and its Great Books curriculum. "The freedom to wrestle with important questions," Greg said," "Plus the accessibility of the faculty and their willingness to engage my questions, and getting to know myself through introspection and self-observation are the best parts of my SMC college experience."

Being one of the few students who knew outright what he wanted to do upon entering college, Greg pursued a career in the ministry after graduation. He now resides in Palo Alto as a Lutheran campus pastor at Stanford University and LOVES his current job where he is able to minister and listen to students, faculty and staff by responding to their questions and needs.

Greg has been with the Alumni-Admissions Program for about a year, and ever since joining in the spring of 2008, has drawn upon his experience as a director of admissions at Pacific Lutheran University to reach out to our prospective students by attending college fairs and contacting admitted students from the Palo Alto area. When speaking with prospective students, Greg shares his advice is to entering college students: TAKE ADVANTAGE of any and every opportunity presented, TAKE STOCK and pause to evaluate your own personal growth, TAKE TIME to move through your college years with deliberate reflection and savor every moment, and GIVE BACK to the world that has given you the gift of education. Thank you, Greg, for being such an inspiration to our community!
