Browning and Mills Return from Beijing
Incoming sophomore Patrick Mills left the Olympics as the leading scorer for the Australian men's basketball team, and Rob Browning, the U.S. men's volleyball team leader, was at the team's gold medal-winning match against Brazil.

Wine Festival Raises Money for Scholarships
The Alumni Board of Directors thanks all the wine lovers and wineries that made this year's festival a great success. One of the featured wineries, Concannon Vineyards, operated by Jim Concannon '53, will celebrate its 125th anniversary on Sept. 20. SMC alumni are invited to join in the festivities.

Hagerty Lecture
Alumni are invited to campus on Sept. 13 for the annual Hagerty Lecture. This year's lecture, "Hagerty's Forgotten Auctor, the Baron Von Hugel," will be given by Brother William Beatie, FSC '52.

Graduate Business Held Two Major Events in August
The graduate business alumni chapter has worked hard to provide MBA alumni with opportunities for networking and professional development. This past month the chapter hosted lectures on entrepreneurship and venture capital. 
 
Blue Mass
To support local first responders, the College will host a "Blue Mass" in conjunction with the Feast of the Guardian Angels on Oct. 2, 2008. Police, fire and ambulance personnel from Alameda and Contra Costa counties will be honored, and all alumni first responders are invited.

Come to the Diablo Country Club for a special day of golf, food and prizes. All alumni are welcome to join in the scramble format tournament.
 
Robert Moses' Kin Dance CompanyNew  CLAM Season Begins
The Committee for Lectures, Arts and Music presents Robert Moses' Kin Dance Company, which brings its powerful athleticism, socially relevant themes and provocative, stylistically varied choreography to the LeFevre Theatre Sept. 21 at 2 p.m.     
Institutional Marketing Report
A report written for the College's Institutional Marketing Committee on developing a stronger Saint Mary's brand is available online. Several alumni were interviewed in the process of creating this report.  
Campus Garden Project
Students began work last week on a campus garden. The home-grown, organic vegetables will be served in Oliver Hall by Sodexo. As the work begins, funds will be needed to help sustain the garden. Those interested in donating can make a gift online at the giving site. Make sure you indicate that you would like your gift to go to the SMC garden.
 
Graduate Education Distinguished Speaker Series
A series of Saturday seminars from the Kalmanovitz School of Education will provide a broad range of professional development offerings for educators. Each seminar will feature a keynote speaker who is highly regarded in the field of education.

Soccer, Volleyball and Cross Country Schedules Announced
Expectations are high this year for several fall sports. Men's and women's soccer will continue to compete in one of the country's toughest conferences; volleyball looks to regain its top 25 status as nearly all of the starters return; and cross country welcomes back a strong team. Mark OrrEast Bay Athletic Directors to Speak at Breakfast
Saint Mary's Athletic Director Mark Orr will be joined by Sandy Barbour, UC Berkeley's Athletic Director, at a breakfast on campus hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Moraga Valley on Sept. 18. Come out and ask Sandy why Cal doesn't want to play basketball against SMC anymore.
  
Men's Basketball is Nearly Sold Out
The ticket office has announced that full season ticket packages are now sold out, and there are very few other tickets plans remaining. Individual tickets will be very hard to come by this year, and they will not be available for the Gonzaga game so reserve your space now by purchasing one of the few ticket plans still available.
