State of the College Address
In his annual State of the College Address, Brother President Ronald Gallagher remarked on the recent successes of the College including marked increases in alumni engagement as well as the increased visibility of the athletic program, and discussed the areas which need to be addressed.

For the second year in a row, Saint Mary's received the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll With Distinction for community service work performed by its students.

Students Lobby to Maintain Cal Grants
SMC students with Assemblyman DeSaulnierTwo SMC students met with state Assemblyman Mark DeSaulnier, D-Concord, regarding the impact of the state's current fiscal crisis on the Cal Grant program. Any changes made could have a significant impact on a large number of students.
 
Alumnus was First Guatemalan Anthropologist
This History Department hosted a presentation by Central Connecticut University professor, Abigail Adams, about Antonio Goubard Carrera '21, the first anthropologist to study the indigenous people of Guatemala.
 
Science Day
The School of Science will host "Science Day" on April 20 in honor of Earth Day. There will be classroom and lab tours as well as a talk on scientific entrepreneurship from the president and CEO of Visiogen Inc., Reza Zadno.
 
Archbishop MillerEpiscopal and Integral Lectures
Join other alumni on campus for two informative and exciting lectures. The Episcopal Lecture on April 5 sponsored by the Cummins and Henning Institutes features a day of seminars and a lecture from Archbishop Michael Miller (pictured). The Brother Sixtus Robert Lecture on April 19 presented by the Integral Program will include seminars as well, followed by a lecture from David Neidorf, the acting president of Deep Springs College.

Summer Wine Festival Save the Date
Here's your first notice on the annual Summer Wine Festival scheduled for August 10. Clear out your calendar and come to SMC to try out some great wines (many made by alumni) and bid on silent auction items. All of the proceeds will go to the Lasallian scholarship benefiting children and grandchildren of SMC alumni.

March Madness at SMC

After one of the most successful seasons in the 100-year history of SMC basketball, the men's team secured an invitation to the NCAA tournament as a No.10 seed. They ended up losing in the first round to the University of Miami, Florida in Little Rock. A special thanks goes out to all the alumni and fans that supported the team throughout the season. Rugby Rolls on into the Playoffs

Gaels Getting National Recognition
In addition rugby's No. 5 ranking, women's tennis is No. 37, men's golf is No. 48 and men's tennis is No. 75. The baseball team also received votes in the national poll this month. It's the first time in College history that five spring sport teams have received national recognition simultaneously.
 
Megan GallowayWomen's Softball Downs No. 17 Hawaii
After losing their first game in a doubleheader to Cal, the lady Gaels defeated the host team 2-1 at the Hawaii Invitational Tournament. They beat the Hawaii team both times they played during the tournament.
 

2008 SMC Athletic Hall of Fame

Seven Gaels will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008. The event will be Sunday, April 27 at noon on campus. Call (925) 631-4803 to purchase tickets.

 
The 12th Annual Southern California Gael Classic Invitational Golf Tournament
A four-person scramble format at the Palos Verdes Golf Club will begin at noon on May 5 with a shotgun start. Check-in begins at 10:30 a.m. and the day concludes with an award dinner, prize drawing and auction at 6 p.m.

Men's Basketball Season Ticket Renewals and New Purchases
Current SMC basketball season ticket holders have until April 11, 2008 to renew their tickets for the 2008-09 season at last season's prices.
If you did not own season tickets last year, you may fill out a renewal form and return it by the April 11 deadline for special SMC alumni priority seating in the Reserve section. For questions or more information, please contact the SMC Ticket Office at (925) 631-4392 or visit www.smcgaels.com.
 
SMC Athletic Summer Camps Accepting Registrations
It is not too early to register for Saint Mary's College Athletic Summer Camps. With 39 years of excellence, SMC offers more than 30 sports camps at one of the most picturesque campuses on the West Coast. Saint Mary's offers boys and girls overnight, day, team and specialty camps for ages 5-18. Summer 2008 camps include all sports, baseball, basketball, flag football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball.
