Filippi Academic Hall Opens its Doors
School of Education Building Dedication
Trustees, Regents, State Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata '67 and anchor Laura Garcia-Cannon '91 were on hand for the opening of the new Filippi Academic Hall on Jan. 26, home of the Kalmanovitz School of Education, to discuss the future of education in California. Bishop Allen Vigneron (pictured) and former President Brother Mel Anderson were among the distinguished guests who attended the dedication and blessing of the building on Jan. 24.
Last Football Player Graduating
Clifton Harrison, the last remaining undergraduate student who played football, will receive his diploma in May. Learn about Clifton and his decision to stay at SMC after the program ended.

Black Alumni Celebration

Lasallian Scholarship
Children and grandchildren of alumni can apply for the Lasallian Scholarship, which covers 25 percent of tuition. The scholarship application deadline is Feb. 8. Please contact the Annual Fund office at (925) 631-4328 if you would like to donate to this endowed scholarship.

Don't forget to submit your Gael Glimpse for the summer edition of Saint Mary's magazine. The deadline for submission is March 15. All submissions before the deadline will be entered in a drawing for an alumni gift basket filled with SMC merchandise. Committee for Lectures, Art & Music Events on Campus
March 2, 2 p.m. - Join San Francisco Symphony Associate Concertmaster and violinist extraordinaire Nadya Tichman and pianist Marc Shapiro for a concert featuring compositions from Prokofiev, Beethoven and Saint Saens.
March 27 & 28, 8 p.m. - For 16 years, Father Damien de Veuster fought to improve the conditions of the lepers on Molokai until succumbing to the disease himself. Professor Dan Cawthon in his last semester at SMC brings this passionate man to life in Aldyth Morris' powerful one-man show. Call (925) 631-4381 for tickets to these events.

Rugby in 3rd Place
Men's rugby is currently ranked No.3 in the country. The undefeated squad has won nine games this year and will take on No.1 Cal on Feb. 16 at Berkeley's Witter Field. Come out to cheer them on.

 Freshman Forward is Tops in NCAA
Freshman forward Louella Tomlinson garnered WCC Player of the Week honors in January after posting a double-double with six blocks against Santa Clara on Jan 12. She is currently the NCAA leader in blocked shots with 5.2 per game.
Men's Basketball Featured in Sports Illustrated
A four-page spread in Sports Illustrated magazine covering the impact of Australian basketball players in the NCAA highlighted the success of Saint Mary's this year with freshman point guard Patrick Mills at the helm. The Gaels are currently ranked No. 25 in the AP poll and No. 23 in the ESPN Coaches Poll. Be sure to come out early on Feb. 4 before the nationally televised (8 p.m. PST on ESPN2) Gonzaga game for a Bulldog Roast.
2008 SMC Athletic Hall of Fame
Seven Gaels will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008 including Rick Bernard '78 (men's basketball), Fran Fabien '93 (women's basketball), Von Hayes '79 (baseball), Chris Jacobson (distinguished service), Richard Mannini (coach), Shari Otto (distinguished service) and Eric Whitaker '88 (rugby). The undefeated football team of 1988 will be honored as well. The event will be Sunday, April 27 at noon on campus. Call (925) 631-4803 to purchase tickets.
Will Clark to Speak at SMC Baseball Dinner
Former San Francisco Giants great Will Clark will give the keynote address at the 4th Annual Brother Agnon Meet the Players night on Sunday, Feb. 17 at the Hilton Concord Hotel. In addition, there will be a live auction, with all proceeds benefiting the baseball team. Call (925) 631-4168 to RSVP.
Southern California Golf Classic
The Palos Verdes Golf Club will host the 12th annual tournament on May 5. First opened in 1924, the course was created by George C. Thomas Jr. and William Bell, the same architects who designed the exclusive Pico Rivera, Los Angeles and Bel Air Country Club courses. You will rarely find a course this good with such amazing ocean views. Registration and sponsorship opportunities are available. Proceeds from the event support Gael Athletics.
