48th Annual Alumni Awards Dinner
Come out to campus on Nov. 3 as we celebrate the achievements of standout alumni at the Alumni Awards Dinner. This year's winners are (clockwise from top left): Jim Guyette '67, Alumnus of the Year; Rick Reviglio '88, Signum Fidei Award; Brother Dominic Berardelli, Honorary Alum; Prof. Shawny Anderson, Saint John Baptist de La Salle Award; Jim Wood '70, Certificate of Merit; and Jim Sciuto '00, GOLD Award.
New Symbol of Peace On Campus
On Sept. 21, the U.N. International Day of Peace, members of the campus community held a dedication ceremony for a Peace Pole which reads "May peace prevail on earth" in eight different languages.
SMC is Going Green
SMC is the featured spotlight campus in the most recent e-newsletter of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. Students and faculty have developed a website about ecological sustainability at SMC.

The Class of 2011 Has Arrived
Vice Provost Michael Beseda '79 reports that the College met its 2007-2008 enrollment goals, with 611 freshmen and 159 transfer students. Statistics regarding the new class are online.
Art Exhibit Goes Down Under
Australian student-athletes and students returning from studying in Australia were on hand during a reception for the new exhibit in the Hearst Art Gallery: Dreaming In Color: Aboriginal Art from Balgo. Forty-five paintings and photos on loan from the University of Virginia featuring original works Aboriginal art will be on display through Oct. 14. The Contra Costa Times called the exhibit a "stunning surprise" in a review on Sept.13.

Know Any Potential Gaels?
SMC alumni can help prospective students by endorsing their application for admission, which allows the waiver of the $55 application fee. Students who are endorsed by alumni enroll at a much higher rate than those who are not. Tell the applicant to add your name and grad year to the fee waiver section of the online application so they don't have to pay.
Founder's Day Celebration Recap
Alumni, faculty and students gathered last month to celebrate the work of James L. Hagerty, who established the Collegiate Seminar Program, on the 50th anniversary of his death.

Lasallian Volunteers Going the Extra Mile
Four SMC alumnae working with the Lasallian Volunteers in low-income schools are running the Chicago Marathon this weekend to raise money for their ministry.

Soccer Programs Start Off Strong
After defeating San Jose State 2-1, the men's soccer team is 4-2-0 and ranked fourth in the West Coast Conference which, has two nationally ranked teams. Women's soccer also has four wins and is currently ranked sixth in WCC, which has three nationally ranked teams.

Basketball Tickets on Sale Now
Men's and women's basketball single-game tickets, multi-game packages and season tickets are on sale now. Highlights this season include match ups against Seton Hall and Oregon (Ernie Kent's first return to SMC since he coached the '97 men's team in the NCAA tournament) for the men and San Diego State, Yale and Boise State for the women. Alumni from 2006 and 2007 can buy season tickets in the lower section for $60. Many games are expected to sell out this season so don't miss out.
SMC Apparel Now Available in Champs Stores Champs stores throughout the Bay Area will begin to carry SMC merchandise this month, marking the first time in the College's history that an official in-store licensing agreement has been signed with an off-campus vendor.
