A few weeks ago, IBM announced a new
Linux-only System z Solution Edition at an unbeatable price of $212,000. The offering comes equipped with an
Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL), Red Hat Enterprise Linux or SuSE
Linux Enterprise and z/VM . Forget cost per user, this solution can
compete with distributed servers at face value, and deliver server
virtualization and workload consolidation with its trademark reliability,
scalability and availability.
SFI (www.streamfoundry.com) wants to
assist enterprises in rolling out this great offer. We provide z/Linux and z/VM plan, architecture, implement and knowledge transfer services. Our z/Linux
practice lead is one of the foremost experts in the space. David Kreuter
has been involved with z/Linux since 1999, and has earned numerous
accolades. Below are two published examples of work that David delivered
that resulted in cost savings to the customer.
2007 Share's Award for Excellence
David was part of
the team that won the 2007 Share award for his work in migrating 200 Oracle and
other workloads from Unix to z/Linux at the Province of Quebec. The award
was presented to David and team based on the cost savings and ability to come
up to speed with z/Linux in a timely fashion. Please read the write-up here.
The Transzap Story
This is a more recent project in which the customer moved distributed (Dell and
Linux) workload to the System z (SUSE SLES Linux) in the name of reliability
and availability. Please review the story here.
If you are one of the 1,300 customers that have Linux and
would like to understand how to eliminate z/OS WebSphere licenses and/or consolidate
Linux, Unix and Windows workloads, consider this offer. Alternatively, if you don't have z/Linux and would like to
understand the cost benefits of moving forward with the Linux-only System z
Solution Edition, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss as well. Your support and interest is
appreciated. Thank you.
