American Heart Association Approves

Lean Beef Cuts

The American Heart Association (AHA) has certified three extra lean beef cuts for "Heart Smart" shopping. This certification allows retailers to display the American Heart Association's coveted heart-check mark on fresh case beef packages, promoting the health benefits of beef to your customers. Upon seeing the highly recognizable heart-check mark, your customers will know that these fresh beef cuts meet the association's criteria for saturated fat and cholesterol - a good first step in creating an overall sensible eating plan. The Beef Checkoff Trade Association Certification simplifies processing and related participation costs to adopt the heart-check mark. Learn More.

Beef is designated as "lean" when it contains less than 10 grams of total fat, 4.5 grams or less of saturated fat and less than 95 milligrams of cholesterol per serving and per 3.5 ounce cooked serving (100 grams). Use our Lean Cuts Wallet Guide and the 29 Lean Cuts Associates Handout to boost your lean beef sales. Learn more.
