SHOPPERS START FIRING UP THE GRILL
Despite recent media coverage on rising food costs, consumers still see beef as "King of the Grill." In a recent checkoff-funded survey of 1,062 U.S. consumers, three-fourths said beef is the official meat of summer grilling, with steaks and burgers topping the list of beef cuts on the grill. Consumer preference for steak is so strong that 43 percent said they will absolutely not give up grilling steaks, no matter the cost, which is good news for retailers this summer grilling season. No other protein came close when it comes to meat preferences for grilling. Taste was the number one reason for selecting a meal for the grill and roughly one in five select meals that are quick and easy to prepare. Three-fourths of consumers said they definitely or possibly would grill even more if they had some good instruction. This presents great opportunity to boost sales with grilling tips and in-store demos to encourage those apprehensive grillers. To help, we've developed a new consumer handout to ensure your shoppers get the most satisfying results. Learn more
