   CTNer Designers Victoria Ying  and Mike Yamada

Featured Artist for SDCC Countdown   

 

We're Mike Yamada & Victoria Ying, a husband and wife art duo - together we illustrate, tell stories & teach. Our writer is Victoria's Brother Jonathan, he is a graduate of Sarah Lawrance College and has done many comic and children's book projects.

Victoria is a visual development artist, currently employed at Disney Feature Animation.

 

Mike Yamada is a visual development artist at Dreamworks Animation. He is an Art Center Graduate and coffee enthusiast.

 

 

Victoria Ying and Mike Yamada are two of the artists in the CTN Talent Hunt at SDCC. Tell us a little about who you are. What working title do you prefer to use that best describes yourself?
Mike and I are both Visual Development Artists working in Feature animation. Mike is from Dreamworks and I am from Disney!  ctnx10

Where do you work now and do you have your own studio?
Mike is at Dreamworks and I am at Disney.

Who do you feel has inspired you the most?
Animation and Illustration have always been inspirations for us. We love going to museums and finding new ways to approach the art of Animation. 

What are you currently working on?
Victoria: Frozen Mike: Me and My Shadow

Do you pr efer creating for yourself, for independent small companies, or large format big studios and why?
We enjoy doing work for our studios and also for ourselves. We like the fact that we can share our artwork with a huge audience through our studios, but we also love being independent as well. 

What is your medium of choice for storytelling and why? 2D, 3D, stop motion, book illustration or all of the above?
2D photoshop 

ctnx10 What would you like to achieve in the next 5 years?
We would like to keep making films as well as keeping our own independent projects going 

How many years have you been exhibiting at the Comic Con, what is your booth number and what will you be offering this year? 
This will be our first Year at Comic con! N-02 in the small press area
