Greetings!

Happy July 4th to everyone! This year we have more American Made wood mouldings and related products than ever before. Almost all of our hardwoods are from North America, and Larson-Juhl is manufacturing more and more styles in this country. Our Michael Faye ready-made frames are made right in Tracy, CA, and our own branded ready-mades are made right in our shop! In the spirit of appreciating our national and local heritage, we are now offering print-to-size local vintage maps.
We hope you enjoy the 4th, and we wish you a warm Bay Area summer!
Vintage Oakland Map
Oakland California 1900 Antique Panoramic Map

Framed 1909 Oakland Bird's Eye Panorama

This charming reproduction of a hand-drawn panorama of Oakland and the San Francisco Bay is a reminder of how much has changed in the past 100 years. Oakland is surrounded by intricate "tree limb" scroll work, framing and highlighting individual images of Oakland landmarks including: The Walsh residence (pictured below), the original City Hall, The Polytechnic Business College, Oakland High School and Chabot Observatory, among many others.

The Pictorial Map is a popular cartographic form that has been used to depict U.S. cities and towns since the early 1800s. The originals of many of the most beautiful (including this Oakland map) are in the collection of the Library of Congress. Known also as bird's-eye views and panoramic maps, these representations depict cities and towns as if viewed from above at an oblique angle. Although not generally drawn to scale, they show street patterns, individual buildings, and major landscape features in perspective.

This Month's Framing Story
Children are great helpers!

Painter, Chenoa Grace had 10 original oil paintings on board she needed framed for a show. "Everyone is so helpful and kind here. I brought my kids and they were given crayons and mat board to draw on. The frames are great quality and the prices were just right!" Visit her web site here.

Photo Restoration of the Month
A Badly Damaged Photo Saved

Restoration Regina Davis had a VERY damaged photograph of her mother that she wanted restored. The original had been framed without a mat and the photo emulsion had stuck to the glass. "This is a photo of my mother when she had a beautiful, toothy smile. I wanted to see if it could be salvaged and enlarged. I'm amazed with this restoration!"

Tanya, Morgan, Lee and Lorena at Pixar.
One of the perks of framing for Pixar is an occasional invitation to a vendor film screening. In June we saw Pixar's new movie, Brave.  Amazing animation as always and a touching mother-daughter story.
