Framing Donation for ASEB
Framing donated to ASEB
On Thursday, May 3, 2012,
Alzeheimer's Services of the East Bay (ASEB) will hold its annual fundraiser at the historic Piedmont Community Hall. Local independent frame shops donate the framing for artwork created by clients of the centers. Join us for a lively auction and fabulous food.  This year more than ever, your help is needed to make this event a success as many of the social services provided by the state have been eliminated.  Click HERE for more information.
Framing Story of the Month

This Month's Framing Story
Framed 1863 Newspaper
Woody Tausend framed this page from an 1863 Vicksburg Mississippi newspaper printed on the back of wall paper. We cut an opening into the backing so some of the wallpaper pattern could be seen (top left). "This was given to me 40 years ago by my grandmother," Woody told us. "The Framer's Workshop did a great job making it look better and insuring it will remain intact for the future."

Golden Gate Bridge 75th Anniversary Poster framed in an Art Deco

Commemorative Poster Celebrates
The 75Th Anniversary Of The Golden Gate Bridge

We are pleased to announce that The Framer's Workshop was chosen to be the exclusive, local retail outlet for this commemorative poster, with all proceeds going to The Art Deco Society of California (ADSC).

The poster was designed by local artist John Mattos, whose heroic style does justice to the most recognized Art Deco structure on planet Earth, the Golden Gate Bridge.

The ADSC is offering this 16" x 32" poster as a fundraiser for the organization for $75.00 for non-members. We're offering special prices for framing the poster in three distinct styles: "Aztec" Art Deco, Streamlined Sleek Silver Wood and Brushed Silver Metal!
Mother's Day Framing Ideas
For the Mom in Your Life

Now is the time to create a special gift for your Mom, your sister, your grandmother, your daughter, your aunt, or your best friend. Here are a few ideas for thoughtful gifts that she will love.
Framed Baby

Frame a photo of her children! Perhaps a baby photo or a group portrait, or a photo of last summer's vacation. Get one of those photos off the computer and into a beautifully framed gift. We can do the printing for you from your photo or digital file.

Mother and Baby

Digitally restore and frame an old family photo. We'll handle all the details from scanning to restoration, and printing to framing. Shown to the right is a hand-wrapped fabric "waterfall" matt in an antiqued silver wood frame. See more examples of Heritage Framing HERE.

Yoshiko Yamamoto
Surprise her with a framed Yoshiko Yamamoto signed and numbered block print, such as the "Cherry Blossoms" pictured to the left, or one of our new hand-colored etchings by Nancy Charles.

Herbert Johnson
Framing Associate Herbert Johnson
Farewell Herbert!

Furthering his artistic career

Herbert Johnson has worked with us for so many years that it came as a shock last month when he told us he was ready to retire from framing. Herbert plans to start an Oakland gallery with a few fellow artists. As soon as his gallery is open we will announce it here. We are very happy for him, but like many of you, we will miss him dearly. We wish Herbert all the best with his new venture!
Berkeley, 1909
by Charles Green
Charls Green,
Charls Green, "Berkeley, 1909" Birds-Eye-View Map

This charming reproduction of a hand-drawn panorama of Berkeley and the San Francisco Bay is a reminder of how much has changed in only 100 years. The artist is Charles Green of the architectural firm Green and Green whose "ultimate bungalows" became prime examples of The American Arts and Crafts Movement. We reproduce this beautifully restored antique map on demand, up to 52" long, on high quality Epson acid-free matt paper. You can purchase the print only or, if you choose to have it framed, we'll give you 20% off the regular framing price!
