Waterfall Fabric Matting
Longevity by Beki Killorin
Longevity by Beki Killorin
"Waterfall" or embossed matting, is a hand-wrapped fabric mat, usually silk, that uses the sculptural qualities of double or triple layers of matting to enhance the detail of a work of art. The mat design is first cut with the computerized "Wizard" mat cutter and then the fabric is adhered to the matting under pressure. The design possibilities are unlimited. Two examples are shown on these prints by Washington state artist, Beki Killorin.

A Raven's Tale by Beki Killorin
A Raven's Tale,
by Beki Killorin

For October we're spotlighting the Giclee prints of Beki Killorin.

Beki's style provides a contemporary look at familiar subjects, bringing a unique life and spirit to each piece. From her studio in Washington's Puget Sound, she has been able to devote full time to refining her skills in watercolor. She has also become a print maker using archivally treated pigmented

inks and fine art rag watercolor paper to produce her giclee prints. A Raven's Tale, for example, is a haunting evocation of the onset of Winter, while Longevity (sidebar)reveals a Banyon tree tenatiously clinging to an outcropping of rock.

Beki has hand embleished each of these prints with gold leaf. We've framed them in Larson-Juhl L-7 series gold leaf frames to accent the leafing and used a silk "waterfall" mat (see sidebar) to add to their richness of detail.

New Service - Custom Designed Posters

Custom Designed PosterRecently a customer needed a Lake Temescal Beach House poster as a commorative wedding gift. Since no posters could be found, we offered to design one for him. He photographed the Beach House which we then "posterized" in a block print style, adding an Arts & Crafts style border with the happy couple's names and wedding date. Once the poster was printed, we framed it in a Picture Woods quarter-sawn oak with corner block accents and protected it with non-glare UV filtering glass.

MARS ATTACKS!!
Mars Attacks
Customer Tom Coates framed scenes from two of his favorite movies, Mars Attacks and Jurassic Park (not shown) for his home cinema. "Beautiful job. I enjoyed working with Kirstie figuring out the right framing and matting. I have a movie theatre in my house so these will give it a fun, cinematic look."
