June 11, 2011 - October 9, 2011
The de Young hosts an extraordinary exhibition of more than 100 masterpieces by Spanish artist Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) from the permanent collection of Paris's world-renowned Musée National Picasso. The once-in-a-lifetime exhibition, made possible only because of the temporary closure of the Musée Picasso until 2012 for extensive renovations, comprises paintings, sculptures, drawings, and prints drawn from every phase of the artist's career.

FRAMING NEEDLEWORK
Needle art includes various kinds of thread or yarn designs sewn into a fabric background. We frame counted cross-stitch, needlepoint, lacework, embroidery, crewel, crochet, quilts, tapestry, rugs and samplers. Some of these pieces are precious family heirlooms and others are contemporary. Both have value and as this work represents an investment of both time and talent, we recommend the use of preservation framing techniques when it is time to display them. We are experts at needle art framing! See More on our New Needle Arts Page...

LISA LEAVES FOR GRADUATE SCHOOL
After five years as Assistant Manager of our shop, Lisa Lombardo is leaving us in August to attend graduate school. We are extremely grateful to Lisa for taking on the challenge of setting up and maintaining our computerized point-of-sale framing system. Lisa has a passion for sustainable practices, and she was in charge of the development of our green program and our qualification for the Bay Area Green certification program . We will miss her keen sense of organization.
Lisa is from Wisconsin and holds a bachelor of arts in Studio Art and French from Beloit College . She will now work on her master's degree in Environmental Studies at the University of Oregon . Please join us in wishing her well when you see her in the shop this month.

INTRODUCING CLARYL GLASS

This new glass contains a special Claryl® coating similar to the coating on Museum Glass but without the UV protection. We are testing it at the shop as a lower priced alternative for those who want reflection control but where UV protection is not imperative. Like Museum Glass®, Claryl® is not an etched product. Rather, the clear Claryl® coating allows all of the light through so the picture looks razor-sharp. Moreover, there is virtually no color distortion in this water-white, low iron glass. Ask to see a sample next time you are in the shop!
