Chinese New Year - Kung Hei Fat Choi!
Opening hours
We wish you and your babies a happy and prosperous Year of the Dragon. We're closed over the CNY Public Holidays - January 23rd, 24th and 25th. For urgent matters please email: info@annerley.com.hk The Year of the Dragon
For those of you expecting or looking forward to having a baby in the Year of the Dragon, here's a little fun fact about "Water Dragons", born in 2012. The Water Dragon - 2012
"Water has a calming effect on the Dragon's fearless temperament. Water allows the Dragon to re-direct its enthusiasm, and makes him more perceptive of others. These Dragons are better equipped to take a step back to re-evaluate a situation because they understand the art of patience and do not desire the spotlight like other Dragons. Therefore, they make smart decisions and are able to see eye-to-eye with other people." (Source; http://usbridalguide.com) With warm regards

Successful breastfeeding
Sometimes baby knows best
The first few hours are extremely important in starting a child breastfeeding. If mother and baby are healthy then the baby should be put on the breast as soon as possible. It may surprise some people but the baby will be able to find the nipple and start to feed herself if she is allowed to. However, the more common method is that the baby is put on the breast by the mother.
It's important to learn how to let the baby suck on the nipple. Rapid feeds in the first couple of days will secure good lactation for long term breastfeeding. Feed the newborn every three hours both day and night in the beginning. Keep the baby close to you, skin to skin when possible and make sure it's warm and safe. It's common to face some challenges while breastfeeding and in many western countries the post-natal visits are a part of the common healthcare system.
Before you consider giving up on breastfeeding, contact us as most problems regarding breastfeeding can be solved. Our team of professional midwifes are here to help you, for more information about post-natal home visits click here.
Watch this moving video which shows how a newborn baby can find its first food by crawling on to the breast.

Swaddle with aden + anais
Multipurpose Wrapping Muslin
We love the aden + anais swaddle. As well as a swaddling wrap, this multipurpose wrapping muslin can be used as a changing table, stroller cover, shade, towel, cover or anything you can think of -- perfect for Hong Kong sticky summers.
Swaddling's ability to soothe and calm babies has been known to mothers around the world for almost the whole of human history. The oldest archaeological evidence of mothers swaddling their babies is found in 4000 BC with the migrating peoples of ancient central Asia. The ancient Greeks and Romans also swaddled and there are even biblical references to the practice.

The Doidy Cup
Annerley stocks the Doidy Cup! Get one for your baby here.
It may look strange! but for teaching your child to drink from a rim it is the best!
The DOIDY Cup was scientifically designed with its unique slant to teach children to drink from a rim and NOT a spout.
The DOIDY Cup is designed and made in the UK, to teach your child to drink from a rim. Starting with a small amount of liquid in the DOIDY Cup, your child will soon become adept at drinking from a rim therefore avoiding the problems bottles or sippy cups may cause.
Children as young as 3+ months old (also can be used from birth with mom's help) find the two handled cup easy to hold and drink from because:
- The contents are visible to them
- Due to the sloping design there is no forward or downward movement of the head
- They do not have to tip the cup up to check the contents
- They learn to put the cup down correctly
