HRchitect has come a long way since founder/owner & long-time Frisco resident Rick Fletcher had the idea to start an HR technology consulting company out of the bedroom of his house to fill a huge gap that he saw existed in corporate America. Fourteen years later, HRchitect is the leader in HR systems strategic consulting and the premier Human Capital Management (HCM) and Talent Management systems consulting firm in the nation, and they continue to expand their footprint - so much so that the company had to move its corporate headquarters to a larger space at Frisco Square. They celebrated the move with a Frisco Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting this past week. (More about HRchitect below.)

Hello friends of The Frisco Community Newsletter!

My name is Jeff Wille & I'm the owner and instructor of JW Music Studio located in Savannah, just 5 miles west of the Tollway and right off 380.

I absolutely love what I do. Music has been my passion for many years now. My mission is to utilize a variety of teaching methods and styles of music to foster that same passion in your life.

  • I believe all of my students should have a well-rounded musical education, in addition to learning how to play their instrument.
  • Your learning will be focused on the style of music that interests you, not necessarily classical styles.
  • I will customize your private lesson based on your learning style, to minimize frustration and maximize learning and enjoyment.
  • I believe music will enrich your life and become an important way that you can express your feelings and emotions.

I am easy going, patient, a great listener and sincerely care about your musical education.  I want you to be happy with your progress and what you are learning, and most importantly to be excited about playing your instrument.

Also, keep in mind that even if learning to play guitar or piano isn't for you right now, it could be for someone on your gift list. With the holidays right around the corner, giving the gift of music to a loved one is one that can last a lifetime. Plus it keeps on giving, bringing joy to the student as well as family & friends throughout the years. Please ask me about customizing a gift certificate tailored to your budget and musical aspirations of the gift recipient.

UPDATED - FRISCO CLASSIC CAR CLUB FUNDRAISER FOR MORGAN WATSON IS TOMORROW:
Morgan Watson, Frisco, TX
Morgan Watson

(NOTE FROM TFCN: Below is an open letter from Charles Haley, owner of Frisco Automotive & good Frisco Community steward)

I would like to invite the community out to our first Frisco Classic Car Club Fundraiser!

It will be a great day of fun, plus an opportunity for all of the car enthusiasts to check-out the vintage cars, motorcycles and new super cars! There will be several thousand people attending the parade and the car show will be in the area where the parade will travel. This will be a good time for all of us "Car Nuts".

Here are the details:

When: Saturday November 12th, during the Frisco Community Parade

Where: Main Street, Frisco- SE corner of 1st St and Frisco Square Blvd

This event has an added bonus feature! It will benefit 18 year-old Morgan Watson, a Frisco resident who has Leukemia. Due to the severe strain of travel and medical bills over the last 22 months of fighting this disease, Morgan's family is in need of personal financial help. More information about Morgan's bravery can be found on her web site at:   www.MorganWatsonFoundation.com.

The show will include motorcycles and cars with a $20 entry fee for each vehicle.  All classic, custom, cool cars, or special interest vehicles are invited. There will be no awards or trophies, just a good time for a good cause.

I have designated a large 3 acre lot for the show on the SE corner of 1st St and Frisco Square Blvd. in downtown Frisco. You can Mapquest 6699 Main St, Frisco 75034 for the nearest building which is on the NE corner of where the show is.

Food and drinks will also be sold.  Participants should be parked by 9AM as the city will close some of the downtown streets at that time, forcing attendees to get there from back streets.  The parade starts at 11am and will last until about 12 or 12:30pm.

If you would like to enter your classic, custom, cool, or special interest vehicle/motorcycle, or have any questions about the event, please contact me.  Participants will need to be parked & in place by 9am, as city streets will be closed off due to parade.

Come join in the fun. A good time for a good cause!

Happy Motoring!

Owner, Frisco Automotive & Transmission

NEW - NEW TRAFFIC SIGNAL ON LEGACY AT STONEBROOK:

A new traffic signal on Legacy Drive at Stonebrook Parkway was  activated today, November 11th, in the flashing mode.  While in the flashing mode, traffic on Legacy Drive will not have to stop at the flashing yellow light.  Traffic on Stonebrook Parkway will see a flashing red light and will continue to stop at the stop sign.

The stop signs will be removed and the traffic signal will become fully operational on Tuesday, November 15.

Motorists are urged to use caution at this intersection as people become accustomed to the new traffic control patterns

NEW - TWO NEW RAMPS OPEN, MULTIPLE LANE CLOSURES AT SRT/DNT INTERCHANGE THIS WEEKEND:

Two new direct-connecting ramps at the Sam Rayburn Tollway (SRT)/Dallas North Tollway (DNT) interchange are scheduled to open Saturday morning, November 12.  These new ramps will allow traffic on the northbound Dallas North Tollway to exit directly to either direction of the Sam Rayburn Tollway.

View the NTTA map of the new ramps

The opening of these new ramps should further reduce the amount of traffic traveling through the signalized intersection of the Dallas Parkway and SH 121 frontage roads.  It will also create new traffic patterns on the main lanes of the Dallas North Tollway and the Sam Rayburn Tollway.  Motorists are urged to use caution in the area as people become accustomed to the new traffic patterns.

The northbound and southbound Dallas North Tollway will be closed Friday night, November 11, the southbound Dallas North Tollway will be closed Saturday night, November 12, several entrance and exit ramps along the Sam Rayburn Tollway will be closed all day Saturday, November 12, and there will be alternating lane closures on the Dallas North Tollway all day Sunday, November 13.  The details of each closure are described below.

View the NTTA map of these closures and the detour routes.

Road Closures Friday night, November 11
These closures will start at 10:00 p.m. on Friday night and will reopen by 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, November 12.

The northbound Dallas North Tollway main lanes will be closed between Headquarters Drive in Plano and Gaylord Parkway in Frisco.  Northbound traffic on the Dallas North Tollway will be diverted onto the northbound Dallas Parkway frontage road at Headquarters Drive and will be able to re-enter the Tollway at Gaylord Parkway.

The southbound Dallas North Tollway main lanes will be closed between Gaylord Parkway in Frisco and Headquarters Drive in Plano.  Southbound traffic will be diverted onto the southbound Dallas Parkway frontage road at Gaylord Parkway and will be able to re-enter the DNT at Headquarters Drive.

Road Closures on Saturday, November 12
The Sam Rayburn Tollway entrance and exit ramps on each side of the Dallas North Tollway will be closed on Saturday between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.  This includes the northeast-bound SRT entrance ramp just prior to the DNT, the northeast-bound SRT exit ramp to Parkwood Boulevard, the southwest-bound SRT entrance ramp at Parkwood Boulevard, and the southwest-bound SRT exit ramp to Legacy Drive.

The following closure will start at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday night and will reopen by 9:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, November 13.

Lane Closures on Sunday, November 13
These lane closures will start at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday morning and will reopen by 9:00 p.m. Sunday night.

Alternating lanes will be closed in both directions of the Dallas North Tollway between Gaylord Parkway in Frisco and Headquarters Drive in Plano.  At least one through lane will remain open to traffic in each direction at all times, but motorists should expect delays during the day.

These road closures are part of NTTA's interchange construction project.  Motorists are urged to use caution in the construction zone and to choose an alternate route in advance.

UPDATED - MEDICARE'S ANNUAL WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY IS HERE FOR FEW MORE WEEKS:
Jim Merriman
Medicare & More

It's that time of year - Medicare's Annual Enrollment Period.  Each year there is only one relatively short period in which you can add, drop, or change Advantage Plans or Prescription Drug Plans - now through December 7th.

Medicare Advantage Plans are still very popular because of their low cost and the additional benefits they provide, including vision and dental benefits not covered by Medicare. But all of the plans in our area have physician networks - which means your choice of doctors will be limited.

Medicare supplements, on the other hand, allow you to go to any doctor that accepts Medicare. But they cost more, require you to have a separate drug plan, and do not provide any additional benefits.

WHICH OPTION IS BEST FOR YOU?

I recommend you consult with an independent Medicare specialist such as myself who:

  1. Represents all of the plans available, whether they're advantage plans or supplements
  2. Knows which doctors take which advantage plans
  3. Knows the premiums and co-pays for each advantage plan
  4. Knows the formularies for each advantage plan that includes drugs
  5. Can explain the different types of supplements available
  6. Can compare supplement premiums
  7. Can compare drug plan premiums and formularies

With that information, you will then be able to make the choice that's best for you.

The author, Jim Merriman, is a Medicare specialist whose company Medicare & More offers full service Medicare solutions. He is available to answer questions during normal business hours & can be reached at (214) 284-8929 or via email.

UPDATED - NORTHRIDGE COMMUNITY YARD SALE TOMORROW:

NEW - HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS CHRISTMAS GIFT & CRAFT FAIR BENEFITS NORTH TEXAS MISSIONS:

It was a routine tropical day in August as the team of 10 mission volunteers from Texas met up with the women in Jinotepe, Nicaragua, where they would be providing a week of vocational training. These were no ordinary women; they were women who were committed to break the chains of human trafficking by learning a trade that would help them provide for their families. During the week they were trained on advanced baking, cake decorating and card making skills. They also perfected their design skills and created jewelry that are true works of art.

This exceptional jewelry, along with a great variety of craft and gift items, will be offered for sale at the Home for the Holidays - Christmas Gift & Craft Fair on November 26, 2011. This shopping event has been designed to bring together craft and gift vendors that provide shoppers with a blend of traditional and one-of-a-kind gift ideas for Christmas. The location for the event is First Baptist Church, 7901 Main Street, Frisco, Texas. Doors open 9am to 3pm.

Proceeds from the jewelry sales, along with the generous donations from a portion of the vendor's sales from the day, will help North Texas Missions, Inc. provide income to the women in Nicaragua and assistance to the other countries where they provide help and support. "Providing opportunities for people to serve and show the love of God to the needy of the world is why this mission exists." stated Bob Johnson, President of North Texas Missions. Johnson added "Join us on Saturday and help others through your gift purchase."

For more information, please contact Bob Johnson via email or call 214-415-6205

NEW - HRCHITECT CELEBRATES NEW CORPORATE OFFICE WITH FRISCO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE RIBBON CUTTING
Frisco Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting for HRchitect - Frisco, TX
Surrounded by Ambassadors & guests, Rick Fletcher, founder/owner & Vice-President of Frisco-based HRchitect along with the company's President, Matt Lafata, prepare to make it official during the Frisco Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting at their new corporate office

More photos from the event can be found in this photo album on the Chamber's Facebook page

HRchitect, the leader in HR systems strategic consulting and the premier Human Capital Management (HCM) and Talent Management systems consulting firm, celebrated the opening of their new corporate office location this week with a ribbon cutting and open house.

HRchitect's steady growth over the past few years dictated the need for expanded office space.

"Our future plans are projecting even greater growth than what we have been experiencing over the last few years," commented Matt Lafata, President of HRchitect. "Our new offices have provided us with 50% more space to accommodate these plans and also offer a more comfortable, pleasant environment for our employees, clients, prospects and partners to function and be productive in."

Frisco's Chamber of Commerce was on-hand to celebrate the new space with a ribbon cutting for the firm. HRchitect has been a member of the Chamber for many years and was the recipient of the Frisco Chamber Medium Business of the Year award in 2009.

"The Frisco Chamber has done an outstanding job creating an effective forum that allows businesses in Frisco to network and exchange ideas, strategies and business opportunities," stated Rick Fletcher, founder and vice president of HRchitect. "We've picked up not only new clients and business partners, but we have also found many of our management team members and employees through the many networking events. Frisco definitely has some of the most talented business professionals available in the country."

The wealth of talent in the community played a large part in the decision to keep HRchitect's headquarters in Frisco as all of the firm's corporate-based employees live in Frisco. HRchitect's new and previous offices both exist within Frisco Square, a mixed-use development in the heart of the community.

"When searching for new office space it was very important for us to stay in the same area," continued Lafata. "All of our employees really enjoy working close to home. Frisco Square offers the convenience of location as well as restaurants and shops that are within walking distance of our office."

Headquartered in Frisco are the firm's sales, marketing, and administration departments, along with some of its consulting functions. However, as a global organization, the majority of the consulting team is spread across North America, allowing for increased accessibility to HRchitect's clients.

UPDATED - INTERNATIONAL GIRLS DAY IS THIS MONDAY:

November 14, 2011 is International Girls Day. This event started in 2009, when a small group of girls came up with the idea to create a day just for girls to celebrate what makes girls special.

With the help of their mentor, they took the idea to Kappa Delta Sorority and together they created International Girls Day on behalf of the Confidence Coalition. With the message, "She Can Do Anything!" the celebration recognizes the spirit of girls and encourages girls to make their dreams a reality.

The celebration takes place each year on November 14th. This is the inaugural year for the National Charity League to promote this day. The NCL-Frisco Chapter is taking the lead and going full force ahead implementing the celebration of this special day. Since they are one of the first chapters to embrace International Girls Day, they expect to be highlighted on the National website for the Charity League and for the Confidence Coalition.

On Saturday, November 12th spectators at the Frisco Community Parade will witness a sea of blue balloons as a group of girls from the Frisco Chapter participate in the Parade. Each balloon will have a hand-written message on it. Examples of the messages are: "You Can Do Anything!" "You Can Change the World!" and "You are Beautiful - inside and out!" During the Parade the NCL girls will hand out balloons to the women and girls watching from the sidelines. Expect there to be smiles galore as the personal messages are read by the balloon recipients. Additional information regarding International Girls Day and the Confidence Coalition can be found
here.

WILL YOU PLEASE BECOME ONE OF ADRIAN'S ANGELS?

Adrian Najera - http://www.COTAforAdrianN.com
Adrian Najera, Age 3
Aubrey, TX

Adrian Najera is three years-old. He lives in Aubrey, Texas with his parents and his 8 year-old sister Vanessa. At one week old, he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. Adrian has been approved for a life-saving kidney transplant, but we need your help.

Adrian's Story

Adrian's Angels is a fundraising effort by his friends and family to help give Adrian a chance at life. Adrian was born on June 8, 2008. Everything checked out fine and by the 2nd day they were able to take him home. Over the next week they noticed that he didn't seem to have a big appetite and he was a little jaundice. On Monday morning, June 16 they took him to his Pediatrician and he said the jaundice will eventually go away and his appetite will increase.

The Najeras felt that there was something else going on with their son and took him straight to the ER. It was at that time that they confirmed something was wrong with Adrian. The ER doctor came in with a very concerned look at told the parents that Adrian's labs were very abnormal. He told them that an ambulance from Children's Hospital was on its way to take Adrian because they did not have the proper equipment to treat him.

When they arrived at Children's, several members of the medical team were waiting for him to perform several exams including a spinal tap. The next thing was to take a sonogram of his organs; it revealed that Adrian's kidneys were not fully developed. You can imagine the nightmare of such news. Only a week ago they were celebrating the birth of their 2nd child and now they stood in front of a Nephrologist explaining to them that Adrian was going to need dialysis before he left the hospital. After two weeks in ICU and with the Grace of GOD, Adrian was able to go home.

The Road Ahead

Fast forward to the present, although Adrian has defied all challenges and remains stable... the time is nearing where he will need to undergo a transplant. Adrian's mother Rosemary is a match and is currently going through the donor clearing process. Once she is cleared then it's just a waiting game. The power of prayer is real. "Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer".

Can You Help?

The most important thing you can do is to support the efforts of Adrian's Angels fundraising by giving to the Children's Organ Transplant Association (COTA) in honor of Adrian. COTA is a 501(c) 3 charitable organization, with all donations fully tax-deductible.

While his family has medical insurance, it doesn't cover the full cost of the transplant itself, transportation and lodging costs related to the transplant, follow-up care expenses, and lifelong anti-rejection medication.

These costs have been estimated to be at least $55,000. Please help raise this amount so that Adrian can continue to experience life.

How to Give

* Donate via secure credit card online

* Mail checks or money orders to Children's Organ Transplant Association, 2501 COTA Drive, Bloomington, IN 47403. Be sure to write "in honor of Adrian N" on the memo line.

NEW - LANDSCAPE DESIGN/DETAIL (Early to Mid November):

SUBMITTED BY: Glenn Everett Kopanski, United States Navy (Retired)

Glenn Kopanski
Glenn Kopanski

For an opener, I feel I need to continue to encourage our conservation of our Lakes and the need for them. This is a serious situation we are in and I am almost to a point where I need to kneel and pray for rainfall. It would take 30 and more feet of rain to get us out of this. I have three

options for all of us. Reason #1 is to Turn your Sprinkler Systems Off (Reason: In the Fall/Winter grasses go completely dormant and leaving your systems on off it will save unnecessary waste). Reason #2 -

Hand water your Trees/Bushes or use a soaker hose. Reason #3 - Check-Online for weekly watering advice based on calculations from Frisco's weather stations and sign up for details on the city of Frisco's website here. Lastly, we are on Stage III,  watering only once on your Trash Day for every two weeks. If caught any of us could get water disconnected and fines up to $2,000. It is easier than anyone might think and that is to turn off your systems all together to avoid that fine.

Water every 2 weeks on Trash Day and be in compliance with City Laws and we might get ourselves out of this situation ondce our rains return and they will but it takes us ALL to make that happen and who has $2,000 per offense?

There are some good ideas for the Holiday season coming soon when it comes to Tree removal etc, log on to the city's website and you can be part of the big picture when it comes to recycling. Allow the kids to get into this and learn how important it is to do their part. I encourage all to Recycle, almost 80% of all my Trash goes into the Recycle bin every week with only half a bag into my Trash Bin, so we can all play a huge part is saving the Planet.

Okay, now for my topic of the week:

PRUNING SHRUBS

I have four basic needs when it comes to pruning Shrubs and now is the time to do this before all

go dormant. First Pinching Evergreens- Taking off the tips to needled evergreens actually encourages

new growth next Spring. Do not be shy about pruning any Evergreen as you cannot hurt them, only

make them better. Grasp the tip of any new growth you see from this Summer and snip it off. You

will see a few more pine cones next year if you have the cones snip them off per the season. Next

is what I call "Thinning". You want to do this every year, cutting back branches from inside the Plant

will give it more Air/Sunlight and that can strengthen the Shrub over time. Shape it the way you

would like it.  If at all possible snip off any branches that Criss/Cross each other, you want to have

a healthy Shrub and doing this will encourage a much sturdier plant as it ages. Now if you have a

very Tall Shrub that can cause problems, for that I encourage you to contact someone who can

reach high, there are extension Pruners you can buy at any Home Depot or Lowe's, or call on a

friend to get to those. If nothing can be done I recommend you have the Shrub what I call "Topped".

By this I mean to bring down that Shrub so you can reach those branches you need out every year.

Doing this can only make the Shrub stronger and inhibits any possible up-rooting. Some Shrubs

get so tall they become Top Heavy allowing them to come down in higher wind storms, so topping

anything really can only ensure you have a Shrub in control of itself. Third is Rejuvenating that

Shrub, meaning to Prune the Shrub in question closer to the ground and allowing a completely

new Shrub next Spring/Summer. I encourage you to consider this when we are talking about

older plants because that Shrub could be in it's last years of life and pruning them back

aggresively can only save it not kill it because it encourages new growth, sort of like a haircut

we all need if cut often the hair grows back faster and heathier looking. Allowing our hair to grow

without cutting it we'll it grows thinly, cutting it back some like a High & Tight it tends to fill in

better. Fourth and Final is to pound in fertilizer spikes at this time will make the Shrub that much

more healthy for nest year's onslaught of our crazy Texas weather. That completes this lesson on

Shrub Care.

For this week's two Landscape words and descriptions:

Term: SUCCULENT GROWTH

Desc:  The sometimes undesirable production of fleshy tender leaves or stems that results from

             Over-Fertilization.

Term: VARIEGATED

Desc: Having various colors or colar patterns. The term usually refers to plant foliage that is

streaked, edged, blotched or mottled with a contrasting color, often green to yellow,

           cream or white.

This week's Tree, Shrub, Flower, Ornamental Grasses of the week:

Tree of the Week: Mesquite

This is a large spreading Tree with Picturesque branch canopies that cast light, airy shade. Most

are Multi-Trunked and are responsive to Heat/Drought conditions as well as poor soil areas. I

have loved this Tree for a long time but be aware most of these Trees have very large thorns,

so Kid's and Dogs might not like this pick. Hgt: 30ft Spread to: 40ft.

Shrub of the Week: Sky-Rocket Juniper

For the Juniper family this is likely the tallest and narrow columnar Shrubs there is in this

Family, but in my opinion the most beautiful Juniper there is. Hgt: 20-30ft Spread: 3ft.

Flower of the Week: Purple-Loosestrife (Perrenial)

Upright floral spikes that come in Purple, Pink, Rose and Orchid colors shows it's self off in the

Summer months and can add in a little attitude to any Garden. After blooming pruning and/or

Deheading encourages even more blooms during the wamer months.. Great Pick here!!

That is my report for the week. If you need anymore information please feel free to call me

and get any advice you need at my home email address. I will (as the month

progresses) give out a lot of advice to prepare us for Winter. Conserve water please. We just

cannot keep watering the way we have been. A reminder fresh water has now become a real

issue. The worlds population has boomed to 7 Billion and the problem exists we have only

enought fresh water for 4 Billion. Current Droughts and escessive Heating has resulted to this,

so as a Community we need to change with the times too before we too end up with no water.

Keeping our City free of trash is appreciated, it keeps our Home's value up and makes our City

something for all to remember. Nothing wrong with rounding Citizens up to pick up trash along

our roads, it can be a Fun event and can pull us together as a Community. I walk around picking

trash up all the time on my property, road or in a neighbor's yard if there is any there. Take

care and will be back next week. Keep remembering those Troops, let's bring them home safely

and hopefully we will not have to return in that arena/theatre.

My Best Regards to You All,

Glenn
