ACTIVE EMPLOYEES WITH MEDICARE ELIGIBLE SPOUSES - WHO PAYS FIRST?
If you have active employees with Medicare eligible spouses on their plan, you may get questions about whether or not the spouse needs to purchase Medicare Part B. As long as the employee is actively working, the State Health Plan will pay as primary whether or not the dependent is Medicare eligible. The only exception is when the spouse is Medicare eligible due to End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).

PREMIUM DELINQUENCY AND DISCREPANCIES UPDATE
As a reminder, it is important for employing units to submit premium payments by the first of each effective month. It is also important to carefully review the Group Billing Statement Over/Short Explanation sheets provided by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) to address premium payment discrepancies. The longer the discrepancy goes uncorrected, the more difficult it becomes to identify. Over time, the amount of the credit or the delinquency can become quite large. Please refer to the HBR Alert on Premium Delinquency that was sent out on March 12.
