Restricting Your Freedom
If you are not a dog lover or a golfer, you may not be inclined to care about this issue, but the current attack on Golden Gate National Recreation Area by the National Park Service and by San Francisco Board of Supervisors is one of many steps down the rapidly shorter road of loss of property rights in the United States.  Remember the poem "First they came for...."?  Time to speak out against ever growing government encroachment.

1. Stop SF Supervisors from returning SHARP PARK Golf Course to Wilderness

Supervisor Avalos' proposal to give administration of Sharp Park to the GGNRA is scheduled for a hearing on Monday, December 5, and is proposed to go before the entire board for a vote on the next day, Tuesday. If possible, please come to the Supervisor's hearing on Monday or at least email or phone as many supervisors (see list below) as possible to oppose the ordinance. Don't forget walking with a dog is probably as popular as golfing at Sharp Park, and the GGNRA is aggressively trying to eliminate dogs and most popular recreation in the GGNRA. We must join forces with others and stop the extremist's from using bogus promises and justifications to high-jack our recreational open space. Any kind of joint management agreement with the GGNRA will essentially give it to the GGNRA.  We can't let San Francisco once again make the same mistake as when San Francisco turned Fort Funston and Ocean Beach over to the GGNRA. Fool us once, shame on you. Fool us twice, shame on us.

Please keep getting the word out!

Suggested Comments:

  1. Oppose Avalos' ordinance to turn Sharp Park administration over to the GGNRA.
  2. Recommend that the San Francisco start procedures to "Take it Back" by converting Fort Funston and Ocean Beach back to the City. The GGNRA has failed to comply with the recreational mandate agreed to when these sites were transferred. The decline in recreation is supported by the declining visitation and the proposed GGNRA general management plan to officially zone about 2/3 of the land as a bird and plant sanctuaries.

2.  Comment on Golden Gate National Recreational Area Proposed Changes

You can make the comments on line at http://parkplanning.nps.gov
(NOTE: This is a federal issue-anyone can comment-you don't have to be a Bay Area resident to express your opinion).

Suggested comments :

1. The agreement that established the GGNRA mandates the land be open to recreation and should be honored as agreed to by the citizens of the Bay Area.
2. The DGMP is unlawful. Changes proposed cannot legally be made by regulation, they must be made by legislation.
3. Due to ongoing violations of the agreement, the people of the San Francisco Bay Area demand return of the property to local control.

Broken Promises: Bait And Switch Land Grab

A National Recreation Area Could Morph in to National Park

  EcoVillage

There are few things more uplifting to the human spirit, then walking along the beach and watching dogs joyously romp in the water, fetch balls, and chase with each other. Yet all that is about to change if the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) morphs in to the Golden Gate National Park, under a proposal called the Draft General Management Plan (DGMP), DGMP is the intended roadmap for all uses of this National Parks property for the next 20 years. The differences between a recreation area and a park are significant. Recreation areas preserve the land for public enjoyment, parks severely restrict human access.....
