Tommy Sam, 20, joined the Equality Center's workforce program in the fall of 2010 and got his GED last June. He's now focused on working and saving money to enroll at a college to study auto body repair.
Greetings!
Thursday's Boston Globe featured a story about our youth, their stories of transformation, and how working on the new, green building serves as another avenue for them to lead sustainable lives.
In fact, sustainability is a driving theme in all of UTEC's work. At the individual level, we see it on a daily basis as young people, otherwise overlooked and labeled as the most "at-risk" in our community, achieve their own personal goals in partnership with UTEC's Transitional Coaches. At an agency level, it is evident in our concept of how we operate our workforce programming as sustainable, revenue-generating social enterprises. And at the community level, it will now also be seen through a green education center within our new building, serving as a model for sharing the best practices of sustainability throughout Lowell and beyond.
Check out the featured article that appeared in yesterday's Globe, sharing a few of the many stories that symbolize such sustainability.
