Happy Holidays from UTEC!

We bring you wishes of holiday cheer and a snapshot of our accomplishments for 2011...  

UTEC has been busy this year!  Putting a spin on a classic holiday carol and adding a few lines, here are UTEC's 12 months of hope, promise, and results! 

  • 20,00 SF of sustainable space under construction/renovation
  • 3,500 Doors knocked on by Vote 17 teen organizers
  • 700+ youth meeting a Streetworker or Outreach member
  • 400+ teens coming to UTEC events, activities and athletics
  • 62 previously out-of-school youth now enrolled in intensive programs like education and workforce development
  • 32 youth gained industry-recognized certifications from OSHA, Green Clean Institute, and ServSafe
  • 80% of teens have not had an arrest while enrolled at UTEC
  • 55% of gang-involved youth have decreased their gang activity since enrolling  
  • 21 youth have received housing assistance
  • 15 new GED graduates - and 2 now attending community college!
  • 4 job training programs: Culinary, Construction, Maintenance, and Mixed Media
  • 3 bills advocated by Teens Leading the Way to improve civic engagement  
  • 2 Youth-Led Candidate Forums 

AND

  • 1 Alternative Diploma Program now expanded to serve 30 out-of-school youth!
