Current Projects of the NNPN

The NNPN is constantly working on new and exciting projects that aim to meet the needs of the NNPN membership by facilitating the implementation of evidence-based practices (EBPs). The current projects include:

The Steering Committee

is the organizing committee for the NNPN with each of the workgroups reporting to it. The committee sets strategic directions for the NNPN in concert with the workgroups and NNPN member organizations. Along with the NNPN Administration Team, the Steering Committee is currently working to organize an NNPN Invitational Conference to discuss strategies for accomplishing the mission and vision of the NNPN over the next five years. The Steering Committee would welcome your thoughts and ideas on how to improve the NNPN. The committee meets on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 2 p.m. EST via teleconference. Dr. Marita Titler (University of Michigan School of Nursing) is the Chair of the Steering Committee.

The Education & Networking Workgroup

has recently completed a critique of a mixed methods research article that will be posted on the Journal Club section of the NNPN website to serve as an example for critiquing mixed methods articles. The group is also finishing the review and update of the EBP resources section of the NNPN website to assist with ensuring current, interesting EBP resources for NNPN membership. The workgroup recently welcomed its newest member, Nancy Elliot from the Lebanon VA Medical Center in Lebanon, PA. The Education and Networking Workgroup meets on the 2nd Thursday of every month at 2 p.m. EST via teleconference. The Co-Chairs of this group are Dr. Michelle Aebersold (University of Michigan School of Nursing) and Jean Cody (Southwestern Vermont Medical Center).

The Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) Workgroup

continues to work on disseminating data from the EBP Readiness Survey. They are also working on updating the CBPR section of the NNPN website.  The CBPR group meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every other month at 2 p.m. EST via teleconference and welcomes your ideas. Leadership of the CBPR Workgroup includes: Dr. Marita Titler (Co-Chair; University of Michigan School of Nursing) and Nancy Weber (Co-Chair; Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, IA).

The Implementation Workgroup

has published the Organizational Evidence-Based Practice Toolkit on the NNPN website. This toolkit outlines processes supportive of organization wide implementation including education needs assessment, partnerships, publication, budgeting, performance improvement, mentored projects and nursing research development.  With this publication complete, the group is evaluating additional needs of member organizations.  Feedback from the 2011 NNPN Needs Assessment will be key to our planning process. The Education and Networking, and Staff RN Workgroups have taken on active roles supportive of implementation.  This workgroup would like to build unique processes based on unmet needs.  If you have thoughts on the structure or needs related to implementation, we would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks to Susan Adams, RN, PhD, who served as a previous Co-Chair of this workgroup. Her enthusiasm, insight and commitment to nursing was invaluable to the whole group. The Implementation Workgroup meets via teleconference on a "to be determined basis" and its leadership includes Roxanne Wilson (Chair; St. Cloud Hospital, MN).

The Staff Nurse Workgroup

has been actively recruiting new members. Our newest member to the workgroup is Amy Yono from the Detroit Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan. The group's governance documents have been approved by the NNPN Steering Committee. The workgroup continues with its endeavor to establish rules/guidelines for an interactive discussion board on the newly updated NNPN website. The Staff Nurse Workgroup meets on the 2nd Monday of every month at 4 p.m. EST. The Chair of this group is Anne McLeod (University of Michigan Health System).

Are any of these exciting projects of interest to you? Do you want to join one of our workgroups and participate in the NNPN projects? Or do you have an idea for a project for one of the workgroups? Please let us know by contacting nnpnetwork@umich.edu for more information or to share your ideas.
