Current Projects of the NNPN

The NNPN is constantly working on new and exciting projects that aim to meet the needs of the NNPN membership by facilitating the implementation of evidence-based practices (EBPs). The current projects include:

The Steering Committee

sets strategic direction for NNPN in collaboration with the workgroups and NNPN member organizations. Currently, the Steering Committee is working on facilitating a face-to-face networking meeting for NNPN members to discuss and develop strategies to continue to accomplish the mission and vision of the NNPN over the next five years. They also provided feedback on the 2011 NNPN Needs Assessment which will assess how NNPN can best be leveraged to meet the needs of its membership. In addition, with the popularity of social media, NNPN is going to become active on Facebook and Twitter, and members of the Steering Committee will be making posts to Facebook and Twitter as well as monitoring the use of those applications. The Steering Committee welcomes your feedback and suggestions on improvements to NNPN. The committee meets on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 2 p.m. EST via teleconference. Dr. Marita Titler (University of Michigan School of Nursing) is the Chair of the Steering Committee.

The Education & Networking Workgroup

has provided valuable feedback for further improving the new NNPN website, quarterly newsletters, and social media application processes. They are also planning to complete a critique of a mixed methods article for posting to the Journal Club section of the NNPN website. The Education and Networking Workgroup meets on the 2nd Thursday of every month at 2 p.m. EST via teleconference. The Co-Chairs of this group are Jean Cody (Southwestern Vermont Medical Center) and Dr. Michelle Aebersold (University of Michigan School of Nursing).

The Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) Workgroup

is continuing work on disseminating data from the EBP Readiness Survey, as well as working on updating the CBPR section of the NNPN website.  The CBPR group meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every other month at 2 p.m. EST via teleconference and welcomes your ideas. Leadership of the CBPR Workgroup includes: Dr. Marita Titler (Co-Chair; University of Michigan School of Nursing) and Nancy Weber (Co-Chair; Covenant/Wheaton-Franciscan, Waterloo, IA).

The Implementation Workgroup

is still in the process of redesigning the work plan to focus on an evidence-based practice organization implementation process. This project is in the early stages and we would love to hear from you regarding your thoughts on organizational-wide implementation needs or ideas. Our next steps may include a small conference to determine the direction the NNPN Implementation Workgroup would like to take in the future. The Implementation Workgroup meets via teleconference on a "to be determined basis" and its leadership includes: Dr. Susan Adams (Co-Chair; University of Iowa/Iowa City VA) and Dr. Roxanne Wilson (Co-Chair; St. Cloud Hospital, MN).

The Staff Nurse Workgroup

recently developed governance documents to guide the structure of the group and membership. The workgroup has also created a document that provides talking points for staff nurses to guide discussions on evidence-based practice and/or membership in NNPN during hospital events and meetings. Finally, the workgroup is in the beginning stages of creating an online, interactive discussion board. The Staff Nurse Workgroup meets on the 2nd Monday of every month at 4 p.m. EST. The Chair of this group is Anne McLeod (University of Michigan Health System).

Are any of these exciting projects of interest to you? Do you want to join one of our workgroups and participate in the NNPN projects? Or do you have an idea for a project for one of the workgroups? Please let us know by contacting nnpnetwork@umich.edu for more information or to share your ideas.
