LTC's Grand Re-Opening a Resounding Success!

On Friday, May 13, LTC opened the doors to its brand-new space with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, live music, great food, and beaming staff and board members proudly showing off the long-awaited transformation. Nearly 200 people attended, their amazement captured in comments such as: "Fantastic!" "Wow!" and "I'll definitely be spending more time here!"

If you haven't had a chance to check out the new LTC facilities, drop by and take a look around. You'll want to spend more time here, too!

LTC Participating in Community Planit

Have you ever wanted to "put your two cents worth in" when it comes to planning Lowell's future? For the next few days, you can do exactly that right here at LTC. We've been invited to participate in Community PlanIt, "a fun and interactive, web-based tool that provides Lowell residents with a way to share their voice, vote on issues that matter to them most and help inform future policy decisions."

LTC's lab will be open for public access to CommunityPlanIt on the following dates:

Community PlanIt is part of Lowell Sustainability Week, a partnership between the City and the Green Building Commission, that is seeking the community's input in planning for a sustainable future.

Orientation, Summer Membership Special, and New Class Schedule

Orientation dates

Now that we've settled into our new space, we can finally schedule our next Orientation sessions. So if you've been waiting to make your membership "official" by attending a session or know someone who has, mark your calendar for Saturday, June 25, at 10:30 AM or Monday, June 27, at 6:30 PM. Plan to spend an hour to an hour and a half or so. Unless you've already done so, after the session you'll be filling out a membership form, paying your dues, getting your picture ID and your Comcast bill--if you subscribe you get a discount on your LTC membership--photocopied for our files. Oh yes, and you'll have a picture taken for our database, too.

Don't forget our Summer Membership Special. Anyone who joins, renews, or reactivates a lapsed membership during the summer months will automatically have their membership extended through September 30, 2012.

Many of you are eager to register for classes and wondering why you haven't seen a class schedule yet. We share your frustration, but  (1) the classroom computers haven't arrived, (2) the new Studio A equipment isn't completely installed yet,* and (3) a new version of Final Cut is coming out soon and needs to be checked out. We are planning on starting at least some classes in July, so keep checking your email and our website ltc.org for a new class schedule.

Thanks for your patience and understanding. In the meantime, please respond to the Education Survey LTC Director Ellie Pye sent out recently and tell us what classes you'd like to see offered in the future.

*Staff is being trained on the new Studio A equipment on Tuesday, June 28, and Wednesday, June 29. We will begin retraining current Studio A users shortly after.

New Summer Intern

Kat Strem

LTC loves having interns from Fitchburg State. Not only are they full-time, they also come to us with a well-developed skill set. Municipal Program Director Marc Duci and Production Support Coordinator Steve Manock both started at LTC as Fitchburg State interns. So, of course, we're delighted to welcome another for the summer, Katherine "Kat" Strem.

Kat started her internship May 23. You may already have been warmly greeted by her on the phone or at our funky new steampunk-inspired front desk. She has been covering events in the field, helping out in Studio A, and honing her editing skills. "It's wonderful to be here," she says. "I love applying the skills I learned in school to the real world of television production."
