White Birch Community Center Gets a Special VisitWBCCVisit
White Birch Visit

On Tuesday, April 24th, White Birch Community Center hosted a visit from the director of the federal Child Care Bureau, Dr. Shannon Rudisill.  Dr. Rudisill was joined by several directors from the New Hampshire Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) Network to discuss issues related to child care quality and access.

White Birch Community Center was selected as a visit site due to the significant improvements in quality achieved in the past several years as well as for its unique and inspiring outdoor environments.  During her visit, Dr. Rudisill remarked how impressed she was with the respectful environments created for children and families and was most intrigued by the tremendous advances the early education programs had made in building developmentally appropriate learning opportunities for all children.

In 2012, White Birch Community Center celebrates its 30th year of serving the citizens of the greater Henniker community.  What a fitting tribute to have recognition and admiration from a visitor from Washington, D.C.!

2012 Memorial Day Parade & Activities

New Start Time - 10:00 AM

Monday May 28, 2012

The Town of Henniker's annual Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10am (new time) on Monday May 28th. Come out and honor those who have passed away while in service to our great nation. The parade will kick off in front of the Henniker Community School before heading to the memorials at Town Hall, and ending at the Angela Robinson Bandstand.

The annual Veterans Photo Display inside the Community Center building will be open to the public 9:30am-1pm.  Please stop in to view this special display.

Ameriprise Financial will be holding their 3rd Annual Food Drive in their parking lot at 26 Western Avenue Henniker.  Come to the parade and bring a canned good or personal care item to benefit the Henniker Food Panty to receive your "free" slice of pizza (courtesy of Western Avenue Pizzeria).  As an alternative, buy a slice of pizza and Western Avenue Pizzeria will donate 100% of the proceeds to the Henniker Food Pantry.

Any Henniker resident who is a Veteran is encouraged to march in the parade. Rides are available. If you would like a ride, simply call Steve Burritt at (603) 545-5389. You can wear civilian clothes or uniform. To join, meet at the elementary school at 9:45 am for 10:00 kick-off.

After the parade, head on over to the baseball field at Town Hall for a Home Run Derby, sponsored by the Fundraising Subcommittee of the Henniker Athletic Committee for Youth.  There will be activities for the kids, a bouncy house and the snack shack will be open.

Adopt a Cemetery ProgramAdoptACemetery

The Cemetery Commission is starting an "Adopt a Cemetery Program."  Last year Mark Aucoin took it upon himself to start clearing brush and standing up and repairing stones on one of the many private cemeteries in Henniker.  This inspired a John Stark Regional High School Student, Robert Dunn, to take on another overgrown cemetery in town for his Senior Project.  At the Commission's most recent meeting it was decided we would try to find more volunteers to take on a cemetery clean up and maintenance project.  Some of our old cemeteries have just a handful of graves, others are so overgrown we don't even know for sure how many people are buried there.

Contact Tom Dunn at (603) 568-5102 or dunn.t@comcast.net if you'd like to learn more about "Adopting a Cemetery."   These cemeteries are our ultimate historical legacy and our goal is to see them all updated by the end of the year.
