Why does Assumption School need an Annual Giving Campaign?

Our focus is to keep tuition affordable in order to make the school accessible to a broad base of socioeconomic families.   A drastic increase in tuition would exclude many families from providing their children with the Catholic, Christ-centered education that Assumption School provides.  Faith in Our Future is necessary to provide an alternate source of funds to ensure that the highest quality Catholic education may be secured and made available to all Assumption students.  Tuition alone does not cover all of the school expenses.  Therefore, the Annual Giving Campaign is needed to provide a sound fiscal approach to running the school.  It helps to bridge the gap between tuition and what it actually costs to educate a child at Assumption.

From Religious Education

Dear Assumption Families,

mrs. maggioMrs. Frances Maggio, Mrs. Marlene Puccinelli, and Mrs. Benita Schwartz will receive Papal Service Awards on Sunday, November 7th at the Cathedral.   Mrs. Maggio was one of Assumption's first parishioners, taught in the school for many years and still serves as school nurse, and has helped in Religious Education Sacrament preparation for the last 5 years.  Mrs. Puccinelli has taught music at both Assumption and St. Andrews for many years.  She and her late husband Primo led the adult choir at both parishes and she continues to lead the children's choir.  Mrs. Benita Schwartz, Director Emeritus for Religious Education, has been involved in the Religious Education Program for over 40 years.  She is also a greeter and assists with the registration of adults at Virtus Sessions.

We will celebrate Mass with a reception afterwards in honor of these very giving members of our community on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 5pm.  If you would be able to help by donating any supplies or finger desserts it would be greatly appreciated.  We can use the following items:  cookies, finger desserts, cupcakes, fresh fruit, brownies, paper plates, cups, napkins and forks.  If you are able to donate anything, please email Liz Diott at lizdiott@yahoo.com ,  all donations can be dropped off before Mass in Msgr. Crean Hall.

We hope you are able to join us and show our appreciation to Mrs. Maggio, Mrs. Puccinelli and Mrs. Schwartz.

2010 ABVM Jog-A-Thon

From the Sports Boosters:  Jog-A-Thon is Around the Bend!

You've got candy on the brain this week, but the excitement doesn't end when Halloween is over!  Assumption School's 4th Annual Jog-A-Thon, the Gator Spirit Run, is on Friday, November 19.  Most of you are familiar with this fun activity, but our kindergardeners and other new students are in for a big treat!

  • This is a school-wide event with no entry fee, and all students, teachers, staff and parish priests participate.  Fundraising for the Gator Spirit Run is optional, but it is a very popular option. Students love fundraising for the jog-a-thon because they have the opportunity to win some great prizes (iPod Touch, season passes to Raging Waters, Dick's Sporting Goods gift card).  And parents love it because 100% the sponsorship money turned in by each child goes toward meeting the annual fundraising obligation, which is $850 per family for the 2010-11 school year.  We also present awards to students running the most laps at each grade level, and a very enthusiastic 8th Grader will win this year's Gator Spirit Award.
  • But the best thing about the Gator Spirit Run is that everyone has a great time engaging in a healthy outdoor activity.  Click here to download complete instructions and sponsor forms.  Happy training!
  • (Parents, please make sure to carefully read the informational materials.  In particular, you may want to get a head start finding the appropriate color t-shirt that your child's grade level will wear that day.)
Quick & Easy Service Opportunities:  Gator Spirit Run
Did you know that you can earn service hours by contributing to this event without even being present?  There are a few items that the Sports Boosters would like to have donated for the jog-a-thon, and you can earn one service hour per $20 value donated.  For instance, if you purchase and donate popsicles totaling $60, you will earn three service hours.  Remember that each family's service requirement is 30 hours for the 2010-11 school year.  Please see opportunities below.
  • 3,000 small wax paper cups (Approx. $40, can be found at Smart & Final, hand over to Amy Wooler by 11/12)
  • 350 popsicles (Approx. $60, fruity variety, deliver to school for storage in freezers afternoon of 11/18)
  • 6 large bags ice (Approx. $50, deliver to school at morning drop-off 11/19)

If you are able to donate any of these items, please contact event chairs Amy Wooler or Kerry Holtz by this Friday, 11/5.  In order to receive full credit, items must be turned in on the specified dates along with receipts.  We thank you for your generosity!

Show Your True Colors!

A "class color" has been assigned to each grade level. The students will be able to wear t-shirts in these colors at various times during the school year. Students will wear their class colors for three events in the future, the Gator Jog-a-Thon, Spirit Day in May and the End-Of-Year Picnic in June. We are providing this information now so that you can plan ahead...we know sometimes it can be a challenge to find a shirt in the appropriate color at the last minute.  And for those really looking ahead, you can also see what your class color will be for next year, as these colors are permanently assigned by grade level (for example, a 1st grader will need a yellow shirt for this year, and a red shirt for next year when he or she is in 2nd grade). Please see the list below to find your assigned color.

  • Kinder: light blue
  • 1st: yellow
  • 2nd: red
  • 3rd: light or lime green
  • 4th: dark blue
  • 5th: orange
  • 6th: green
  • 7th: purple
  • 8th: rainbow tie-dye (8th Graders will make these in class, you will just need to bring a white t-shirt to school in early November)
