From the Principal

Greetings!

On Friday morning Father Gerard blessed our new gym floor and our student council along with Mrs. Regan-Smith planned a beautiful prayer service.  I thought you would enjoy reading the petitions that the students wrote as part of that service:

For all those who sacrificed and raised the funds so that we could enjoy this beautiful gym, we pray to the Lord

For those who used their talents and skills to produce and install this new floor, we pray to the Lord

For all those students who will this use this newly installed floor, that they will grown in knowledge, teamwork, and sportsmanship, we pray to the Lord.

For the coaches and all those who teach in this gym, that their dedication and commitment will continue to inspire their students in the ways of Christ, we pray to the Lord.

For teams from other schools who will visit us here at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary School, that they will always find a place of welcome and fair play, we pray to the Lord

Thank you for your wonderful support of our school and for making this beautiful new floor a reality!

From the Vice Principal

Skateboarding After-School Program Coming this Fall!

Eduskate is a local company dedicated to spreading the young joy of skateboarding to boys and girls in the greater Los Angeles area.

Santiago Garza and Mark Sarkis, two Assumption School graduates, founded Eduskate in an effort to provide students with a healthy, fun, and challenging option for time spent after school.  The classes are taught in a non-competitive atmosphere that allows each child to enjoy growth and improvement at his or her own pace.

The program emphasizes the surf-style skateboarding of the 1970's and teaches students a more fluid and safe form of the sport. Classes will cover everything from introductory aspects of balance to the fine-tuning of advanced maneuvers.

Students will be exercising their bodies and challenging their minds as they master the sport. We have designed our classes so that every child will feel comfortable on a skateboard by the end of the program.

Students will need to bring a helmet and any type of skateboard. Knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards are not required but recommended for first-time riders.

The class is separated into grades 1st to 3rd and grades 4th to 8th. Each session lasts fifteen weeks and the class fee is $167 per child.
