Easter Eggs

Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday!

We will be stuffing eggs on Thursday at 1pm so you still have time to drop off donations of toys that will fit inside plastic Easter Eggs.  Come by the church and help us stuff the eggs. Call Sherry Mers for more information, 719-481-0222.  With over 1000 eggs this is the perfect time to invite children of all ages and remind them of the wonderful resurrection of Christ!

Easter Flower

Easter Flowers Donations & Dedications still being accepted

Didn't get your Easter Flower dedication in on Sunday?

You can still email it to the office at stmatthias@comcast.net by Wednesday at noon. You can then drop your check in the mail or in the plate next Sunday. Donation suggested is $10.

Summer Sunday School Program Training (VBS)

The Children's Ministry Team is getting prepped for a fun and exciting Summer Sunday School program. We will be using the VBS program Babylon: Daniel's Courage in Captivity. ThereBabylon will be a short training session for the program on April 22 at 11:30, right after church. The program will run from June 10 thru Sept 2. We will need people to help decorate, stage skits, prepare crafts, and prepare snacks. So if there is something you would particularly like to help with, including teaching, let Laura Barkocy, Lauri McCamley, or Micky Miller know. You can also leave a message at the church office: 359-9204 or stmatthais@comcast.net. Please let us know if you will be there.

Lenten Focus 2012

Lent is upon us and I wanted to make sure you had a heads up on the way we'll walk through Lent at St. Matthias this year. There are three focus points:

  • Small Groups: We are asking each small group to meet weekly during Lent as the primary discipline and time for formation. Weekly gives the groups a chance to build Christian Community and build this life-giving dynamic into one's life. Resources are available through Fr. Scott to support this.
  • Daily Lenten Devotions: Via our Website and eBlasts, St. Matthias will provide daily devotions for each day of Lent. We'll begin these on Ash Wednesday via our eBlast, and then linked to our homepage. When you receive the first day's devotion, you can follow links to update your preferences for eBlasts and devotions.
  • Lenten Sermon Series on Prayer: During Lent Fr. Scott and others will focus on the way of prayer: a place of meeting God and of discovering more of His character. Please help these sermons be a bit of a dialogue by sending Fr. Scott an email with your thoughts or suggestions at padrescott@gmail .com

Sermon Titles:

  • Ash Wednesday: The Reward of Prayer
  • Lent 1: Lord, Teach us to Pray
  • Lent 2: Common Prayer
  • Lent 3: The Prayer Closet
  • Lent 4: Praying for One Another
  • Lent 5: Persevering in Prayer
  • Palm Sunday: Prayer and Fasting
  • Easter: The Joy of Prayer

Stations of the Cross

The 14 Stations of the Cross are hanging on the walls around the church. The first station is nearest the American Flag continuing counter clockwise to the opposite wall. The Stations were created by the Youth Group in 2002. If you are interested in the devotions for each Station, please see Bill Clewe or Fr. Scott.

Thank you each for being a part of the St. Matthias family or extended family. The Lord bless and keep you!
