Extending the Season Through the Fall All the locals know that fall is one of, if not the, best times to be in the Hamptons - the days are still pleasantly warm, but the crowds are winding down, kids are back in school, and there are no more wait lists to get in to your favorite restaurant! What a relief! Without the hustle and bustle, time seems to slow down, allowing you to really take in the beauty of the Hamptons in autumn and appreciate its more subtle qualities.
So what do you have to look forward to at home? Lots!
Plant for the Fall:
Remember, fall is the best time for planting. The warmer days combined with cooler nights give way to less weed competition and allow plants to really establish a healthy root system from the ideal soil temperatures. Come spring, the now well-established roots continue to develop at a faster rate, leading to a fuller, healthier-looking plant.
Aster novi-belgii | Enjoy Harvest Hues:
Autumn is also a great time to see some brilliant tree color. But, trees aren't the only feature of the landscape that bear rich hues. Get sensational color well into the fall by including later blooming or longer lasting flowering perennials and shrubs. Many plants will display additional color, whether it is through their vivacious flowers or bold combinations of jewel-tone foliage.
Make Your Home Stand Out:
Fall flowers will definitely extend the life of your perennial border and make your home stand out from your neighbor's fading color palette. Don't forget to change out your summer planters and create some harvest and holiday displays. This added pop of color is sure to enhance your landscape when you are sitting by your outdoor fireplace on crisp, fall nights.
Seek Warmth...Outdoors:
Speaking of outdoor fireplaces, what a great way to extend the season and enjoy many fall evenings by a blazing fire. It adds ambience to outdoor entertaining or creates an intimate setting for two. The warm amber glow can even make a captivating sight to enjoy while relaxing in soothing spa waters. Best of all, outdoor fireplaces can be designed to fit your lifestyle and landscape. From masonry fireplaces complete with a chimney, hearth, and mantle, to masonry fire pits with space to circle around, you can easily incorporate this unique feature.
Take in the Crisp Air & Enjoy: As you breathe in that fresh autumn air, just think of all the added uses you have to look forward to in your landscape. You will be amazed at how much more you can receive from your outdoor space. Not only will you be providing your newly installed plants with the best possible growing conditions, but you can still have fantastic color late in the season. On chilly nights, you can take pleasure in having many outdoor evenings beside a crackling fire.
